D91 Back to School Guide

2021-2022 School Year (edited 2/2022)

Dear D91 Parents and Guardians,

The D91 board of education, administration, faculty and staff is thrilled to reopen out schools for full in person learning on Wednesday, August 18th. The first day of school is a half day and students in grades K-8 will attend from 8:30am until 11:30am. The first full day of school will occur on Thursday the 19th.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to the greatest extent possible, we will continue to utilize many of the mitigations were in place previously. These measures include optional mask wearing when at school, washing or sanitizing your hands throughout the day, practicing social/physical distancing of at least 3 feet, and more. Mitigations may change as local and state guidance changes throughout the year.

The D91 Admin Team

School is in session from 8:30am until 3:10pm each day - all students attend in person five days per week. Please see below for more information about arrival and dismissal.

Dropping off supplies in advance is completely optional, students are welcome to bring their supplies on the first day of school as well. If you choose to drop off supplies, just head around to the back of the school and enter through the gym doors. There will not be anyone in the office to buzz you in.

Health Office Information

Health Certifications Are No Longer Daily

BINAX Now Testing

During the 20-21 school year, D91 partnered with the Will County Health Department to bring COVID testing capabilities into our school health office. A pilot was started with our focus on symptomatic staff members. The test was easy to administer, painless, and delivered quick results. After seeing that having the tests on site significantly reduced staff quarantine absences, we began to invite students to test as well. Since we had the ability to test students on site, the number of students quarantined dropped significantly. This is great because it ensures students can access in-person learning. As we open the school year with full in person learning, we would like to continue to make quick decisions in response to students who become symptomatic at school. Having the ability to perform this rapid test and determine that the student is negative for COVID, allows our health office to avoid having to quarantine the child as well as classmates and staff members that were in close contact.

BINAX Now tests are single nostril nasal swabs that do not enter the sinus cavity. They are only administered by the nurse to symptomatic students. Most of the time, parents bring their children to school to be tested in the early morning because they have become symptomatic outside of school. Less frequently, students are tested at school.

Families may also request a paper BINAX consent form. Please call your school office.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Due to restrictions on eating in academic areas, students will not be consuming snack in their classrooms. We encourage a substantial breakfast to begin the day.

Breakfast & Lunch Ordering Information

Through an extended national lunch waiver, ALL D91 students are able to eat lunch for FREE REGARDLESS OF INCOME. THE MEALS ARE 100% FREE OF CHARGE FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS. Survey responses were requested by August 9th via ParentSquare from every family in order to make sure we have the correct number of meals on hand for our first meal service on Thursday, August 19th.

Children whose families completed the ParentSquare survey by August 10th will receive a bagged breakfast that will be sent home each afternoon IF they indicated YES on the breakfast participation question.
