Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your families, filled with relaxation and special memories. While I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Emmy on her first Christmas break, I was excited to get back to school and begin a new year with your kiddos! I am looking forward to 2016 with anticipation and excitement in my heart, knowing that this year will be a successful one for your kiddos! :)

Here is what we are looking forward to next week:

Word Work

  • Words of the Week: want, who, black, red, blue
  • Word Pattern: -ack
  • Words Their Way Sort: ack, ick, ock, uck

Next week, we will be focusing on the main idea of fictional stories. Main Idea is what the story is mostly about. The ELA Acuity test that was given this past week tested the students over this concept. Since the majority of the students did very well with this skill, I will be challenging the students by having the students use this skill a bit more independently than originally planned. I am excited to see what the students are able to do with what they know about main idea!

The students will show what they know about writing a story by completing the middle of year Writing Prompt. They will write about a fun time they have had. Talk with your kiddo this weekend about some recent, fun memories that could be good stories for their prompt next week!

Next week, we will be finishing up Big Idea 3 for Unit 4. The students have been working hard in whole group and small group exploring place value. Don't forget to sign your child up to the Front Row website at: The class code is: erb6q2

Social Studies

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day coming up, we will be learning and researching about why Martin Luther King Jr. is so important to our country's history. Think about visiting the library sometime this month and checking out books that would add to your kiddos knowledge about him.

Please feel free to call or email me with any of your questions or concerns. I am here to support the students and their families in any way that I can! Join me as we celebrate an exciting new year...2016!
