5th Grade 101
Mrs. Harris' Class Newsletter Week of 9/28/15
What We Did This Week
We had a very busy week! In Math we practiced the order of operations some more and began our Fraction Unit by focusing on using prime factorization to simplify fractions. In Science we learned about plant and animal adaptations including inherited traits. We enjoyed a lovely day studying Science outside on Friday. Students did a wonderful job at Garden Day. We also made observations of our terrariums after a week of allowing them to sit in the atrium for a week. We will observe them again on Friday. Students may bring them home after that.
What We Are Doing Next Week
We will be continuing the fractions unit by adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. Students will need to watch a video about adding and subtracting fractions by Thursday morning. In Science we will discover what factors cause changes to an ecosystem. We will also review the life cycle and metamorphosis.
Event Information
Lunar Eclipse
Make sure to check out the lunar eclipse on Sunday! This special even won't occur again until 2033. The eclipse is supposed to be over by 10ish, so students wouldn't have to stay up too late. Ignore the map. I can't get rid of it, and it doesn't really do anything for this event!
