Georgia
The Georgia Colony was founded in 1732 by James Oglethorpe. The colony was founded so it could be a "Buffer Zone" from the Spaniards in Florida. Georgia concentrated on agriculture and developed the plantations exporting tobacco, cotton. By 1775 Georgia was governed as a Royal Colony. Georgia started off with about 2,000 people wanting to settle in Georgia. However Georgia was also used as place for debtors in Europe to settle here too. The religion in Georgia was Anglican mostly.
South Carolina
The South Carolina Colony was founded in 1633 by eight English nobles with a Charter from King Charles II. The main source for income in South Carolina was rice and indigo. Indigo was introduced in South Carolina by Eliza Lucas. South Carolina was a proprietary colony. There was about 200 English colonist coming to the new world from England. The Indian population in South Carolina declined shortly after the English arrived from disease. The main religion in South Carolina was Anglican. However there were other religious in South Carolina. South Carolina and North Carolina were one big colony until 1729.
North Carolina
The North Carolina Colony was founded in 1653 by the Virginia colonists. Plantation were a main source of income for the southern colony's. Plantations grew cotton, tobacco, rice, sugar, indigo, and other crops in North Carolina. They also harvested the sap from pine trees. The government of North Carolina was a proprietary type of government. Population of North Carolina started off with about 200 Colonists that came from England. There were some issues with the natives as the English were trying to settle to North Carolina. Some of the natives did not like the English taking there land. Anglican was a very popular religion in North Carolina.
Virgina
The Virginia Colony was founded in 1607 by John Smith and other colonists including John Rolfe. Tobacco was the main source of income to the Virginia. Virginia had a corporate charter then a were a royal charter. The House of Burgesses was also in Virginia. In 1619. There was around 2000 settlers in Virginia all coming from England. The Anglo-Powhatan Wars were three wars fought between English settlers of the Virginia Colony, and Indians of the Powhatan Confederacy in the early seventeenth century. The First War started in 1610, and ended in a peace settlement in 1614. Anglican was the main religion in Virginia.
Maryland
The Maryland Colony was founded in 1633 by George Calvert, Lord Baltimore and other colonists. The main cash crop in Maryland was tobacco and other crops. Maryland was governed as a proprietary colony. There were about 550 settlers in Maryland. Maryland offered a refuge for English Catholics. Some of the native american tribes in a Maryland include the Pocomoke, and the Amamesses. Anglican was the main religion in Maryland.
