Principal's Corner
Wow! It’s hard to believe it is October already. We have finished our fall testing. You should receive those results from your child’s teacher at conferences next week. Our teachers use this information to guide their instruction and ensure your child is getting exactly what he/she needs to be successful this school year.
With October comes cooler weather. Please make sure your child has what they need to be comfortable outside during recess. This time of year, the temperature changes throughout the day but sometimes a light jacket or sweatshirt is still necessary during recess.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Muffins with Moms. We had a great turn out, and it was wonderful seeing all of you enjoying a muffin and juice. We will have our annual Donuts with Dads in February.

BOOK FAIR IS COMING!!
Media Center News
Happy October!
September was a busy month in media class. Second grade students have been visiting educational websites on Information Place. Students have visited Bookflix, Abcya, Tumble Books and PBS Kids. Second grade students practiced their typing and computer drawing skills by writing about what they would add to our school. Students listened to the book If I Built a School by Chris Van Dusen to give them ideas about what they would add. There were some very creative answers. Next week second grade students will be practicing their typing skills to create an All About Me writing using Abcya on Information Place.
Third grade students have been busy practicing their new log in passwords to get on the computer this month. They have also been visiting many educational websites on Information Place. They have gone to Abcya, Tumble Books, Bookflix and PBS kids. Students created All About Me word clouds using Abcya. They also wrote a friendly letter to the main character in Can I Be Your Dog? by Troy Cummings using Abcya. It has been a great first month in media class. Students can access the educational websites they have been using in media class by going to Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/k-1
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the Steeby Book Fair next week during conferences!
Happy Reading!

A Note From Music Class
Music is off to a great start here at Steeby! The students have learned a routine on how to enter the music room and have reviewed music notes/rests and solfege that they had previously learned. They have also been singing songs with games and playing the xylophones and glockenspiels.
*Special note - 3rd graders will be having an evening Music Program in March.

Physical Education Fun
We recently finished up our soccer unit with all classes getting a chance to play outside on the field. They learned a lot of strategy and skills and they worked hard getting sweaty everyday!
Beginning in October we are transitioning to a basketball unit. Students will practice dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense and then start some games the 3rd week of the unit. Ask them about their basketball drills, we have some fun ones.
Students of the month in P.E. 2nd grade-Makayla Miner, Lindy Shine, Tyler Warmbold, and Brody Niemczyk. 3rd grade-Lily Watson, Briella Luscomb, Nolan Markoswki, and Santi Sal.
