Memorial News
April 2018
From Mr. Collier
Dear Parents/Guardians:
April is off to a rough start with the early spring snow and temperatures remaining winter-like. Let's hope the weather warms up soon so that students can spend time outside playing and socializing with their peers.
A huge thank you to our Memorial parents for your patience and understanding with our new school procedures to address some of the safety concerns that were brought to my attention. It is vital that we continue to examine any possible security concerns to ensure that our students remain safe at Memorial School.
Last month, Mrs. Irene Hanley, our Math Basic Skills Teacher, announced her retirement. She will be leaving us at the end of the school year. Her dedication and passion for supporting our students will be missed at Memorial School. Mr. Parks is in the process of finding her replacement. Once hired, I will send a communication introducing him/her to the Montvale School community. I want to wish Mrs. Hanley a happy and healthy retirement.
On Wednesday, April 11th, the Memorial staff and I will meet our new kindergarten parents and introduce them to Memorial School. Our parent orientation will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. This is not a night to bring any children as we will be discussing some sensitive material.
As you might have heard at the last PTO meeting, Memorial School was informed that we cannot have any vehicles on the Kinderpath in the event that the lightning detector goes off. We have reached out to our local law enforcement and we hope to have a new procedure in place very soon. Once that new procedure is developed, I will distribute it to our Memorial School community.
The spring season has begun and that means our students might be spending some late nights out on the sports fields. As parents, please assist and guide your child to help them balance their academic and sports commitments. As always, the Memorial staff and I are always available if you need any support in this matter.
Enjoy the spring season!

Happy April, Memorial Families!
Spring is a time to enjoy the weather and, for some, the sounds of "Play Ball"! This month, we turn our focus towards working together. Students will be actively participating in activities throughout the month that incorporate collaboration, compromise, and being a good teammate.
Family Night Activity: Basketball, Monopoly, Uno, Scrabble, perhaps Boggle? Get the whole family together and play a team game!
