We Are A.R.M.Y. Strong!!
As an add on to the Continental Creed this week I would like to acknowledge all of the hard work that students and staff did First semester. Every grade level in Reading and Math made at least 100% of the growth NWEA expects on average for the year! Our growth averages were not only double the expected national averages, but also much higher than the EVSC averages for our grade levels! This is a simple but amazing testament. Our teachers focus on student growth and relationships that will see this positive trend continue. If you have a moment take the time to thank one of our hard working teachers and let your child know how proud you are of their work.
How is your child doing in classes?
Remember to check out your students schedule for second semester. Check RDS for new teacher and class information.
Report cards went out this last Friday but you can always check RDS for the most up to date grade information as well as past report cards.
If you have questions or concerns about grades you can contact Mrs. Bender Carrie.Bender@evsc.k12.in.us or Administration to set up meetings.

Washington's Grading Policy
1=Far Below Proficiency
2= Approaching Proficiency
3=Proficient (students do not need to be perfect on an assessment to be proficient)
**Homework and classwork are intended to be practice for the assessments. Those will be marked in the gradebook as complete (Y) or not complete (N).
At the end of the grading period, we look at the percentage of skills they show to be proficient to determine the report card grade. The scale is as follows:
80%-89% = B
59% or below = F
Students will not have as many items in the gradebook, but we want them to show proficiency on each skill before the end of the quarter. This means we will reteach and allow for retakes each quarter. Again, there are fewer skills, but that allows for us to teach in different ways and ensure that students are learning the material required to move on. In addition, we teach students that, even if they don't know it the first time, they need to keep working. The goal is growth and constant improvement.
For more information about our grading policy, you can visit the website below or join us for parent information sessions starting early in September. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Branson.

If your child needs additional support with any subject, they can stay after for tutoring. In order to schedule after school tutoring, students can go to Google Classroom and join the class with the following code: tld1ot From that Classroom, they can sign up to stay for tutoring.
We are trying to keep the classes small, so students can get the help they need. If students do not sign up for the sessions or schedule an assessment with their teacher, they will not be able to stay. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns regarding help for your child.
