Book Fair is a HUGE SUCCESS!
Thank you to all who made our book fair a huge success!
Maverick Mile
by Haripriya Mantraratnam (Priya)
For those of you who don't know by now, the Maverick Mile is the biggest fundraiser of the year. Everyone gets a free T-shirt, with a different color for each grade( thanks to the generosity of the PTA members). Each student in the entire school gets an envelope, on which they write the names of the people who are donating money. People can either donate a flat amount or pledge a dollar amount per lap. The students record this data as well. They also get prizes for the amount of money they bring. For example, if a student brings $5, they will get an eraser. If another student turns in $15, they will get an eraser along with a color changing ball, and so on. Finally, everyone runs laps. Volunteers distribute water and record laps on the back of T-shirts. Each classroom gets back at least 10% of what they turned in for classroom purposes. If the school reaches the goal, we get an extra recess! Sadly, we missed our goal of $40,000 by about $1,800, but we still made a lot of money for our school. GO MAVERICKS!
Digital Citizenship by Katie Brown
Why hello there! I'm Katie and I'm here to tell you how to be a good digital citizen.
- Don't give out your real name. EVER.
- Don't brag about your life. It's rude.
- Don't give out your address, school name, or age.
And last, but certainly not least....
4. Don't be a inappropriate on the internet. You may not even know the person you're
talking to.
Be sure to follow these simple rules and you will be the best digital citizen out there!
New Teachers By Mary Einhorn
Hey there! You are probably wondering about some new staff here at Mill Creek. I am here to help. I have interviewed the new math teacher, Mrs. Goodwin, and she is a blast. This is Mrs. Goodwin's first ever year teaching, and she loves to teach math. Her favorite thing about teaching is when she gets to interact with kids, and see them have famous "light bulb" moments when they finally figure something out. Mrs. Goodwin states that she became a teacher because it would be a good career for her as a mother. Being a teacher also gives Mrs. Goodwin time to do something she loves most, math. Alright, here is your super staff update this week!
Book Review By Silvie Aumalis
Today I decided to review the book Smile, by Raina Telgemeier. This book is a graphic novel, which means a comic book, but its a true story. The book is about a girl named Raina, and it talks about how she was able to get through braces and other dental drama while dealing with some problems at school, too. I enjoyed reading this book and its great for when you get braces, or just when you want a good book to read. I recommend this book to 3rd grade and up, but remember, you can try it if your in the lower grades, too. Thank you for reading my report on Smile.
Book Fair by James Yoo
The book fair was very great and it was very helpful. Due to your contiributions with buying so many books, we were able to receive many special books for our library! There were lot of good books. such as Deep Blue. Another book that I thought was good was the Shadow Squadron, which is two books in one. I read it and it was action packed awesomeness. There were lot of bestselling books like The Pigeon Needs a Bath. The "Captain Underpants" books are also another popular series. I hope that you will support our book fair during in March 2015!
