2014 ICAS Assessments
A reminder, the closing date for entries into the ICAS competition is tomorrow, Friday 11 April. As the tests need to be pre-ordered, we cannot accept late entries. These tests will be held in term 2. Students wishing to sit the tests will need to come to school at 8am on the day of the tests.
Premier's Reading Challenge Update
A reminder, students need to be inputing their reading into the Premier's Reading Challenge website. Students in Years 3-6 should be reading independently. They are welcome to enter their books at school during lunchtime or they can do this from home.
The following booklist details the books that students from K-2 have read at school.
Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition
Well done to all our fantastic speakers who demonstrated their eloquence in both prepared and impromptu speeches in the Banksmeadow PS Public Speaking Competition. It was a very close and entertaining contest, with many highly commended speakers: Tess K., Lachlan G., Logan I., Ben M., and Rolly M.
Congratulations to our place winners who were Taylise H. and Georgia S. in 3rd place, Jessica W. and Caleb P. in 2nd place and Hayden I. and Shazneen O. in 1st place.
Good luck to Hayden, Caleb, Shazneen and Jessica who are representing the school in the Regional Level of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition next term.
P & C News
Thank you for your generous support of the Easter raffle. Prizes will be drawn at tomorrow's Easter hat parade.
Our fabulous Mothers Day stall will be held on Thursday 8 May please start sending in your gifts for the stall. This is a great fundraiser and a lot of fun for the kids who come and choose something special for their mum. To ensure that every child is able to select a present please donate a present for each child you have at school. We would appreciate it if you could wrap the gifts in clear cellophane.
Term 1 has been busy with many events including our swimming carnival, Life Education visit, Harmony Day activities, School Photos, our school Public Speaking Competition as well as weekly Gymnastics for Years 3 - 6 and ball skills program for K -2. The Public Speaking competition allowed many of the students to show their skills in this area and highlighted the great job our teachers are doing in developing this important skill in our children.
The new Kindergarten students have settled into school life very well and at the other end of the school our student leaders have capably taken on their leadership roles.
Our BYOD program now includes Year 4 and it is great to see the quality of work the students are producing, the development of their skills and the responsibility they are displaying in looking after their own devices.
I would like to thank the volunteers who help throughout the school each week. We have a committed group of parents who are working each day with Year 2 students to improve their reading skills. The teachers are already seeing positive results! Also a big thank you to our hard working P&C who help us provide the "extras" for all students.
Term 2 will only be 9 weeks, however it is also a busy term. NAPLAN testing will take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Week 3 for students in Years 3 and 5. For more information on these assessments, click on the link below.
Semester 1 student reports will be sent home on Wednesday 25 June. We usually have parent/teacher interviews at the end of Term 2 but will hold them over until the beginning of Term 3.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday.
