The Structured Sheltered Lesson in Secondary Social Studies (SU1634555)
Secondary social studies teachers will leave this training with the ability to begin the school year with a solid understanding of how to structure a lesson for ELLs by meaningfully incorporating the ELPS and anchors of support (e.g., sentence stems, visuals, anchor charts, graphic organizers, etc.) from bell to bell.
Participants will learn how to use the ELPS and TEKS to write student-friendly content/language objectives as well as how to check for understanding throughout the lesson, providing students opportunities to speak, read, and write using newly acquired academic vocabulary in meaningful and engaging ways.

Participants will learn how to use an anchor chart to drive a lesson/unit, meaningfully incorporating it throughout the lesson to promote students' academic speaking, writing, and metacognitive skills.
