ID Badges
ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are SHUT DOWN and PUT AWAY from 7:30a - 2:20p
- Student are expected to follow EPS expectations for cell phone use.
- There is a progressive plan if students are using their cell phone during the school day.
- If cell phone usage becomes habitual, it can lead to a parent picking up their cell phone in the Front Office.
Message for 6th Grade Principal
Hi Thunderhawk Fam!
Hope everyone has a wonderful three day weekend! ‘
This week we will celebrate black history! Will have dress up days starting on Tuesday.
Tuesday: Dress for Success
Wednesday: Favorite Jersey
Thursday: Throwback Thursday (dress like 70’s, 80’s, 90’s)
Friday: 6th grade wears green for the assembly!
We will have an incredible assembly on Friday with keynote speaker, Mayor Davis.
Also next week, we will begin selling our wristbands for DWDW (PUP Week) activities. A $20 wristband gets students entry into the 3v3 tournament, karaoke social, dodgeball tournament, the DARE assembly AND a donut and takis. More information will be coming on our social media and available in the PUP week smore!
General Reminders:
Be sure to wear your ID everyday! If you don’t have it…be sure to get a sticky badge from the front office.
Chromebooks need to be charged every night so that you’re set up for success the next day.
I am so thankful for our Thunderhawk family. The 6th grade students and teachers are one in a million. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to help these 6th graders to learn and grow.

Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
We are now learning about Plate Tectonics. Students will explore seafloor spreading as well as evidence from earthquakes and volcanoes to support this theory. Students will be studying a lot of map data and learning how to interpret it. We will then move on to learning about the types of rocks and the Rock Cycle!
English
Hello Thunderhawks!
Our students have worked very hard on their argumentative essay to answer the question of whether or not zoos should exist. The final draft of this essay is due at the end of the week. As we move into our next unit, we will be taking a look at cause and effect in writing.

Literacy
As we come to the end of February, we have just begun our Literature Circle unit. Students heard book talks over the many novels to choose from and make their top 4 choices (and one they definitely do not want). Teachers then will place each student in one of their top four choices. Students will then read that novel in a group of 3 - 4 students, discussing and answering questions as a group. We will be reading in these groups up until Spring Break. All reading is done at school unless a student has been absent for an extended period of time. Literature circles have always been a favorite of students and teachers as each group is reading something different.

6th Grade Math
Hello Thunderhawks,
We are closing out February with Unit 8 on Equations and Inequalities.
Unit 7 Retakes will be available starting next week. Please see the week 7 module for details. Weekly homework notes will continue this semester. Please check your student’s weekly canvas module if you have questions on when assignments or homework is due. Completion of homework notes is a vital part of our class learning. It also gives students a great resource if they need to complete any math work at home and notebooks can also be used on all unit tests. If you have questions about homework, please contact your student’s math teacher.
FInally, if you would like to help donate to our classroom glue shortage, please check out our Amazon wishlist. Any donations would be appreciated.
Need Help in Math? Here’s what you can do:
Come see your math teacher during pre-advisory (7:10-7:40)
Come do a working lunch. (There is always 1 math teacher available during that time to offer help).
