Message From the Superintendent
Dear SWISD Community,
I am writing this letter to inform the phenomenal Southwest community of my pending retirement from Southwest ISD at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. I have had the honor to be an employee at SWISD for the past 33 years and have served in the role of superintendent for the past 13 years. I also feel honored to have been a SWISD student for my elementary, middle, and high school years and a SWISD graduate in the early 1980s.
Serving the Southwest ISD students and families will always remain the best experience I could have ever hoped it would be. Being part of a system filled with exceptional teachers, support staff, campus and district leaders, families, and students is a highlight of my career – I could not have ever asked to land in a better school district than SWISD.
We are proud of our students' collective positive trajectory every school year. SWISD students compete on every stage, field, and court and in every classroom because of the great staff at SWISD. Watching the southwest school community grow over the years, from one elementary to 11, one junior high to four middle schools, one flagship high school to two comprehensive, and one specialty high school, has been amazing. This past August, we cut the ribbon on the first public school district Aquatic Center south of Highway 90.
A big thank you to all SWISD teachers, staff, parents, former and current trustees, and the thousands of students and graduates through the years for the opportunity to serve. My memories of my time in SWISD will forever stay with me. I look forward, along with my wife and family, to remaining a resident and community member and to continue cheering on the many future successes to come. Our trustees are working with the Texas Association of School Boards, TASB, to find the next SWISD superintendent.
We would love to hear from our community as part of that process. Please take a moment to respond to a short questionnaire here.
Thank you, SWISD and Southwest Community. We ARE Southwest!

McAuliffe MS Students Spread Message of Kindness
McAuliffe Middle School student ambassadors were up before sunrise this week to create a fence message to remind everyone to be nice to each other. The message is large enough to be seen from drivers traveling along Loop 410.
