Mrs. Walters' News
Last week we had a visit from our state representative Thomas Albert. Representative Albert serves the 86th district of Michigan which includes Lowell, Ada, Caledonia, Ionia and more! He stopped by to witness our Michigan Education Corps (MEC) tutors in action. These tutors work with our students who are progressing well in literacy but may need support to continue their positive growth. These are students who normally would not receive additional intervention in literacy. We are lucky to have 2 full time tutors at Bushnell! The continued support of our legislators is necessary to continue this awesome program and I know Rep. Albert was impressed with what he saw.
Thank you to our middle school orchestra friends who came and put together a fun concert experience for our students. The discipline and practice of our Lowell orchestra is impressive!
Today we had our Hat Day celebration in honor of our Bushnell Bears who are being respectful, responsible and safe! I saw lots of cool baseball caps and students participating today! Way to go friends!
Finally, we begin our last round of testing next week with our literacy measures using DIBELS as well as the nationally normed MAP test in both reading and math. We use these pieces of data to determine next steps in curriculum as well as inform parents about how their child has grown in these areas this year. When results are in I will put together a summary soon!

Summer Academic Scholarships
2019 Summer Academic Scholarships
Dear Parents:
The teachers and support staff in your school district, through the Lowell Education
Association (LEA), are offering their students Summer Academic Scholarships. Scholarships
are to be used for academically enriching programs. The scholarships are to help cover the
cost of an academic program and are given in amounts not to exceed 50% or $100 of the
total cost of the program. Amounts awarded are dependent on the number of applicants.
Criteria for awarding this year’s scholarships will be established by the scholarship
committee. Sports and church camp applications will not be considered.
It is the responsibility of parents and students to research programs that are available and
to contact that program for an application of enrollment. The scholarship committee does
not have application forms for any program. It is up to the individual applicant to see that
this is taken care of before applying for a scholarship. This is especially important if the
program you are enrolling in has its own deadline. If you are then awarded a scholarship,
the check will be written to you. If your child later decides not to attend a program, please
return the check as soon as possible; the money will be used for other applicants.
Previous scholarships have been awarded for:
Wittenbach Center Camps Computer Classes
Wittenbach Jr. Master Gardener Program FFIC Heritage Camp
Lowell Schools Summer Academic Programs Space Camp
Kendall School of Design Career Camp
John Ball Zoo School Camp Invention
Knollcrest Music Camp MASTA Strings Camp
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Sweetwater Rock Band Camp
GRPM Camp Curious Meijer Gardens Summer Camp
Civic Theatre Arts Day Camp Bricks 4 Kidz Camp
Scholarship applications (see link below) must be submitted no later than Friday, May 3, 2019. Scholarship forms must be filled in correctly and received by the due date to be considered for a scholarship.
Please send forms to Lindsay Bredin at 718 Riverside Dr., Lowell, MI 49331 and
