Mrs. Bill's School Family News
November 13th
What to ask?
Have a kiddo that is reluctant to talk about what they did at school all day? Here are a couple questions to get the conversation rolling;
* Tell me an animal that lives in a nest? (not a bird=)
* What is another word for equal?
* Did you meet a character you really liked in a book this week?

Academic Highlights
Our language arts focus this week was identifying the characters in stories. We talked about how characters could be people or animals. There are also main characters and sub characters. Kiddos had fun picking out the characters in the books they were reading independently as well.
We are also looking closely at words that rhyme. This is a fun thing to work on together as families!
The sight words for next week are: black and white
In math we are exploring addition. We are learning that a + sign means "all together with" and that 2+3=5 and that 5=3+2.
In writing we are learning to use our "story hand" to plan our writing. This includes 1. Who is in the story. 2. Where the story happens and 3-5. Things that happened in the story.
Veterans Day was our focus in social studies. We learned about the branches of the military and that Veterans are men and women that have worked very hard to serve and protect our country.
It has been another great week, thank you for sharing your children with me!
