February 2020
A note from the desk of Mr. Thorvilson ...
Dear Families,
Conferences will be held on March 3rd, 5th and 6th. Your conference reminder will be sent home in your child's backpack on February 19th! We always look forward to spring conferences. Your child has grown so much this year and it is fun to celebrate this growth. One of our school goals is for EVERY child to make over a year's worth of growth in reading. We are well on our way. Thank you for making reading a priority!
Giving Hearts Day is on February 13th! If Giving Hearts Day is new to you, you can learn more about it at www.GivingHeartsDay.org. Although our school will simply focus on and celebrate the spirit of giving, much attention will be given to the efforts of the GF Foundation of Education as they raise funds to #secureaseat. Their efforts seek to ensure a seat on the bus, at the lunch table, and in the classroom for all students, experiencing at-risk students, those experiencing homelessness, and students in foster care. Please visit https://www.gfschools.org/foundation for more information. On Twitter you can follow the hashtag #secureaseat. Students are welcome to bring in donations (even small amounts of loose change) on February 13th or anytime during the week. ALL donations will be celebrated and accepted with gratitude!
Please continue to encourage your child to read and to read books they love. As teachers and parents, this is one of the most important things we can do to help them grow. As we move closer and closer to spring, ignite or reignite those reading habits. I promise you, your child WANTS to be a great read and a reader that can find books to fall in love with. If you need great book recommendations, please connect with your child's teacher or anyone in our school to learn more about some great books!
Thank you to all of our parents for attending our school's RED Events throughout the year! We are so proud of our parents and our families. We always have a great turnout! Thank you to all of our parents that have attended or plan to attend special events in our school. Our school has committed to having a special parent meeting at each grade level again this year as a way to connect even more with our families. Keep watch for further details from your child's teacher.
