Monday, August 17, 2020
Greetings from principal Tiffany Molina
Dear Beveridge Families,
I am thrilled and eager to welcome you for the 2020.2021 school year at Beveridge Magnet Middle School. The faculty and staff have been busy training and preparing for our Remote Learning start of school and we are looking forward to getting started. We are excited to have you back for another year and for those of you coming to us brand new, we are so very excited to have you as part of our Beveridge family and cannot wait to meet you. It is our goal to have every student online, in class on Tuesday, August 18th at 7:40 AM, classroom instruction will begin on that first day and it is imperative we have all students attend.
Student success is the goal of every staff member at Beveridge. We believe with our current structures and dedication to high quality, research-based best practices, every student will learn to full potential. We are prepared to offer time and support as needed. I ask for your support and participation in this effort by ensuring your student is logged in to Microsoft TEAMs on time, each and every day, monitoring homework and progress, and asking your student to share what they learned at school each day.
This weekly newsletter is a way to communicate with students and families about important information that is taking place at Beveridge. We hope that you find this information useful and helpful.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to our staff if you need any help.

Weekly Communication
Along with this newsletter, we will be sending out the weekly Learning Tasks for each grade level. You will be able to access a document for your student’s grade level with that week’s assignments and tasks. Please look for this starting the 2nd week of school.
Parent Portal
The parent portal gives families access to view their child's grades, attendance, missing work, and the opportunity to electronically pay for lunches. For more information on how to set up Parent Portal and to access your Activation Key, please email our Data Assistant Principal, Ms. Jackson, she will get in contact with you to provide you this information.
Technology Tips
Technology is such an important part of our students' learning. We will be providing tips to help support the learning for students.
IPAD Update
· Parents/Guardians have the option of purchasing insurance coverage for $20 to cover loss or theft of the iPad. The insurance form was mailed home in your Student Information Packet earlier this summer. If you need another form, please email Registrar, Ms. Citlally Ortega, and she will get one to you. This form is to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to Beveridge whether you chose to purchase the insurance or not, for your child to receive an iPad. iPads are scheduled to be shipped to Beveridge at the end of August.

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Rebecca Speer!
Mrs. Speer teaches our alternate curriculum program at Beveridge. Our ACP program teaches all of our students at their level. We not only work on academics but focus on life, social skills, and vocational skills as well. Our kids work at their pace and love to be in school. When asked what she loves about teaching ACP, Mrs. Speer says, “I love the kiddos who join me every day. They all have their own personalities which makes everyday fun. No two days are the same in ACP. We celebrate all their accomplishments. Just when you think they aren't listening and learning they surprise us, and we all laugh and cry about it together. They are really a joy to be around. I love to see their progress throughout the year.”
Mrs. Speer expresses that, “virtual teaching is going to be a hard and slow process with ACP kiddos. If we don't have the parents help and support with the kids then it will be extremely difficult since most of our kids require some sort of one on one assistance in most cases and we won't be there to assist them. Our kids will need lots of breaks from screen time and sitting therefore we have to build into their daily schedule those break times and activity times. It may be difficult to get them back onto the computer for the next lesson or activity. We will have to take things slow until they all get the hang of it but I have faith that they will learn how to maneuver through Teams and interact with us daily. They love seeing and talking to each other so I hope that will be enough of a reward to get them signed on and interacting with us. We will have to be creative daily in our lessons. They will need manipulatives and worksheets which will be the biggest challenge to overcome.”
Mrs. Speer is extremely innovative, caring, dedicated, and talented in the classroom. She spent last week preparing individual boxes for each of her students that were filled with materials that would meet their particular needs. Mrs. Speer Goes above and beyond for students every single day and we are proud to have her as a Beveridge Bulldog!
