JSD Year 1 Newsletter
Friday 19 September 2014
This Week
It's been a busy week in Year 1. In maths we have using the words more and less. We have been using this to find 1, 2 and 5 more or less than a given number.
We have been finding out about ourselves, discussing and remembering when our birthdays are and completing writing about this. We have been talking about and writing facts about ourselves. Then we labelled the body parts on giant paintings. We studied our faces and drew amazing portraits.
We have continued to learn about labels and lists and wrote lots! This was all on top of our other activities.
No wonder everyone was tired by Friday afternoon!
Next Week
We begin to learn about our senses, our focus next week being 'smell'. To help us make some smelly pictures, we are asking that if you have any old dried herbs in your cupboard that you please send them in to Mr Ainscow and Miss Foulkes.
Our new literacy focus is story writing and in maths we be using the vocabulary more, less, empty, half empty, longer, shorter, heavier and lighter.
Parent Information Evening
Thank you to those you attended it was great to see you all. For those who couldn't make it and as a reminder we will send out the information next week.
Request for photographs - reminder
Over the next few weeks we will be comparing what we could do as babies and what we can do now. We would like you to email two photos to us of your child (one baby photo and one current photo). These photos will be used in interactive activities and displays in and around our classrooms.
