Newsletter Week 6 Term 4

Sacred Heart School Petone Wednesday 24th November,2021

Talofa lava Parents and Friends

Production practices are in full swing and it is looking great! Everyone is working very hard and we are sure you will all enjoy it! With the announcement from the Government regarding the new COVID protection Framework- "Traffic Light system"- which we will move into on Friday 3rd December, we are awaiting instructions from the Ministry of Education about how we will need to roll this out in schools and we will communicate this to you as soon as we have a clear understanding of what is required.

The next 2 1/2 weeks are going to be very busy and we ask you to read any messages sent home from school via HERO. We welcomed Constable Tania to school today to train our Year 6's as Road Patrollers. We thank those students for offering to do this very important role at school.

Last week we sent you a letter regarding the end of year activities at school and at this point in time we will be sticking with those plans. Should anything change we will let you know. With COVID still in the community we need to keep all our hygiene processes in place.

Congratulations to the 51 children from Sacred Heart and San Antonio Church communities who will make their First Communion this coming weekend at 3 First Communion Masses. We are all proud of you and the way you have coped with Alert Level changes and changes to the programme. Some children have been waiting 2 years to continue this journey.

School Production: Our school production will be held on Tuesday 7th December at the Little Theatre. Tickets for both performances are on sale now and are $10.00 each. If anyone is able to help us with videoing the Production please let Penny Martell know.

Sports Term 4: Thanks to everyone for respecting the safety rules at both sports so the season can continue for the children.

RISE Challenges: Completed RISE Challenges are due to me by this Friday 26th November.

Emergency Pack Return: If you would like your emergency pack returned please fill in the Return Slip on the letter we sent last week and send it back to school by December 3rd.

School Library Books: Our school library will close this Friday for the annual stocktake. Could you please check at home and make sure that any school library books are back by Friday.

Book Club: The last Lucky Book Club order for the year closes tomorrow Thursday 25th November. No late orders will be accepted.

Thought for the Week

"If we put the #Gospel at the centre and bear witness to it with fraternal love, we will be able to look to the future with hope, whatever the tempests, great or small, we may experience today." Pope Francis (@pontifex)

RE in Ruru

Ruru led our School Prayer this week. The focus was on Advent.

Next Sunday is the start of Advent. The word 'Advent' comes from Latin and means "coming"; its purpose is to look forward to the coming of Christ to Earth; it was a season that focused on waiting. So, "Advent" means something new is coming. The dawn of the new and better era. This is really what the Christmas season is all about. It's the celebration of the ADVENT of a new era.

Celebrating our school

Last week our Junior School visited Whirinaki/Expressions and Maidstone park in Upper Hutt. We closely studied some of the art works on display and created some of our own. We also got to play in the newly upgraded park. It was a fantastic day! We would like to say a huge thank you to the parents and caregivers who helped on the day - without your support, trips like this wouldn't happen. Check out the photos below.

Please check out the You Tube videos below of some of our Tokeluan studetns in action!

School News

School Production

We have only forty evening session tickets (7.00pm) left for sale and plenty of matinee tickets (1.30pm) available. There is now no limit to how many you can buy. Payment can be made in cash at the office or an online payment can be made to the school bank account. Please email Anna in the office if you are paying online. Please note parents are welcome to come into the school office to buy tickets.

School Lunches

We are beginning to notice food like chippies and biscuits creeping into school lunchboxes. Please remember this sort of food leaves children feeling hungry shortly afterwards and makes learning a challenge once sugar rushes wear off.

Lunchonline specials are available through the term to offer occasional treats such as pizza, but we ask that outside of these specials that school lunches do not contain junkfood.

If your child arrives late to school, it is important that they come through the school office so that Anna can mark them as present. Please remind your child to report to the office upon arrival.

Spare clothes

We have had a few toilet accidents recently but do not always have spare clothes to change children into. We would appreciate any donations of junior-sized underwear or old PE shorts/school shorts or culottes. Any spare school sunhats would be very welcome as well.

Drink Bottles

Please note that our drinking fountains are closed in Alert Level 2. Please ensure you send a named drink bottle to school each day for your child.

2021 Accounts Outstanding are due next Wednesday 1st December.

All outstanding accounts must be paid by next Wednesday 1st December 2021. Paper statements and email reminders will be sent home today.

If you would like to arrange regular part-payments, please contact Anna in the office before then.
