Dr. Mary (Johnson) Pfeiffer, Bay Port Class of 1982, was honored as Wisconsin State Superintendent of the Year at the annual state education convention last week. As Superintendent of the Neenah Joint School District, Dr. Pfeiffer recently led a successful $114.9 million referendum campaign to build a new Neenah High School. In 2021, The Holiday Store served 223 families and 506 children. In addition, 565 volunteer hours were put into this community function. Angela Klumb, Food Pantry Supervisor, leads the planning for The Holiday Store where families can purchase specific items they know their children want and need for the holiday season.

Kourtney Feldhausen, Student and Family Engagement Coordinator, said, “One of our goals is to make sure our families feel welcomed, respected, and safe when they walk through our doors. Angela is the voice behind the food pantry phone, she is the first face that greets our families, and she is the behind-the-scenes woman who organizes the pantry to meet the food and personal care needs of so many families.”

At HSSD, our students are learning from the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. In each edition of The Compass, the Student Services team will share a topic for families to reflect upon. Learn more about Social Emotional Wellness on our website.

Live the 7 Habits: Habit 4 - Think Win-Win

Leaders who think Win-Win balance courage and consideration. They have courage to say no when something isn’t a win for them, and they have consideration for what is a win for others.

Think of a situation where you and a member of your family are not getting the results you would like. Describe the situation. Now create a chart (a T-chart works great for this) and let each person share what a win would look like for them by asking, “What would be a win for you in this situation?”

  • Brainstorm multiple ideas.

  • Create a Win-Win Agreement based on what each person has agreed would be a win in this situation.

  • Check out this video to see how Manny and Clark think of win-win solutions.
