WHPE August Update

Monthly Challenge: The Great Outdoors

It's August and, while the start of school is not too far away now, there is still plenty of summer fun to be had. August's challenge is to make the most of the great outdoors by engaging in as many different outdoor activities as you can. Set yourself a goal number of outdoor activities to try or see if you can work your way through the alphabet according to outdoor activities. You can find The Great Outdoors Challenge and any of the past monthly challenges at http://fitnesschallenges.wikispaces.com/.

Why Physical Education impacts learning - a video series

Many of you who attended the Best Practices in Physical Education and Health conference at UWSP at the end of July were fortunate enough to be at David Sladkey's (@dsladkey) session on Brain Breaks for the classroom and saw some of the excellent video's David and Paul Zientarski (@PaulZientarski) had put together on the importance of physical education and movement throughout the school day. All of David's video's can be viewed here - they are an excellent resource for physical education teachers, coaches, classroom teachers, parents, school board members, and administrators! I have included one below.

Edcanvas

Edcanvas is a website that allows you to create a canvas of resources related to a topic or subject. You can drop video's, documents from your Google Drive, create quizzes, insert Educreations screencasts, webpages and more. Here's one example of a Health canvas. I can think of a huge number of uses for this platform in health and physical education, including creating a parent information guide to a topic area. Watch the video below to see a quick snapshot of how to create a canvas. Edcanvas is also free to use!
