Principal's Message
Conferences, Book Fair and Garden week - oh what fun! It's been such a joy to see so many volunteers and visitors at Hallinan this week. We appreciate you being here supporting our school and students! If you haven't had the opportunity to volunteer yet, please make sure to complete the Volunteer Requirements (detailed below) prior to visiting the building.
We are excited to have the Book Fair back in person at Hallinan this week. Mrs Landau and our incredible PTO have set up an amazing selection of books to transport our students to magical new places. The Book Fair will be open at Hallinan tomorrow from 7:30 am to 1 pm and online at Scholastic Books through April 14 - click here.
Please ask your child about Garden Week. Rain or shine, all classes had the opportunity to discover the joys of gardening this week; they learned the parts of plants, hunted for worms, planted vegetables, herbs and flowers and decorated garden boxes. We are grateful to the PTO for making the garden a very special and beautiful place!
Looks like it may be a good weekend to cozy up with a new book - have a great one!

OSAS Schedule and Reminders
Oregon State Assessment will take place in April and May, refer to the Save the Date section above and chart below for details. Teachers will also be sending out information in their newsletters.
Prepare your student for testing by ensuring:
- They are well rested
- Have healthy breakfast, lunch and snack options
- CHARGED chromebook
- Encouragement - we believe in them!
If a student has a smartphone or watch, these will need to be kept in backpacks during testing as access to them creates an impropriety, per state assessment regulations.
Oregon State Assessment Opt-Out Form
State law requires us to inform you that a form is available from the State Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of the math and English Language Arts assessments for the current school year. Should you wish to opt out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office at your child’s school. Please note the submission deadlines listed on the form. Meeting the deadline will help the school with planning and preparation. If you wish your child not to participate in the science assessment for grades 5, 8, and 11, submit this request in writing to the principal of your child's school.
If you have questions or want more information about state assessments, please contact your child’s principal or teacher(s).
