Shelby-Rising City BEEF Club
Beef Club Donations
Hello! We are bringing back the SRC Beef Club for the 22-23 school year! What is that? We are committed to partnering with local beef producers, local ag producers, stakeholders and alumni to provide local beef to students as part of the Nutrition Program served at breakfast and lunch.
You can become a BEEF PARTNERS by donating in a number ways; it is not limited to just providing local beef. What do we need? We are in need of donations of USDA ground beef, cattle, or cash so the Beef Club can process or purchase local beef to our students.
The plan is to use the local beef for hamburger patty's in the lunch program, with extra local beef being used in meals like tacos or spaghetti!
If you are interested or need more details, please reach out to Tucker Tejkl at 402-527-5946 or ttejkl@shelby.esu7.org.
More details to come by the end of the month! Thank you!

Message from Mr. Tejkl
"How much are you willing to give?..."
Good afternoon!
Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to an event or two this past week! It was a busy week but it was one that had a lot of great moments! Congratulations to all of our coaches and students who are in activities with victories scattered throughout the week. Enjoy your successes, learn from your mistakes and continue to get better each day!
As we hit the first week up September, it means that we have been in school for 18 days already and our routines have been rediscovered or established. I can not tell you how proud I am of our students and our staff members who have put in many hours past the bell to make sure they are giving their all are prepared for the challenges that could lie ahead. We have been doing a lot of great things in our hallways and I hope that you are able to see that through social media or hear them from your children.
As we buckle down to knock another month in the books, I ask you on what your goals are? It is easy to say "get good grades" or "be ready for the week". Let's get specific though, what do you want to accomplish in the next month? If it is about grades, how will you assure that you are on top of what your are doing? If it is to be prepared for the week, how will you make sure that the organization is set and consistency is kept? These answers come down to you and you alone.
Success depends on how much you are willing to sacrifice, how much you are willing to alter your everyday life for a particular goal. As a school, our pillars lead the way of what it means to be a Husky (Innovation, Integrity, Accountability & Service). What are we doing to make sure that each one of us is setting goals to make sure we are embodying what we want to be and what we can be? Each day is a new opportunity to grow and make ourselves better but it isn't without a little sacrifice and elbow grease. We are all capable of reaching the goals we put in front of us but the question is how far will you go to reach it?
Have a great rest of your Sunday and looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
"Success depends on how much you are willing to sacrifice, how much you are willing to alter your everyday life for a particular goal."

Sincerely,

Why WE Love SRC!!!
When "The Dude" speaks, you listen
"I think the gift of time is possibly the most precious commodity we can offer. I have taught many families through the years and teaching from the oldest to the youngest siblings in a family unit holds a high honor.
I have had those instances of teaching the children of the parents I have instructed over the years. That is how a great relationship is built.
If a student has a problem, just being there to listen, offer advice, or add a few dollars towards necessities to help them achieve greatness in a safer environment. Most never forget an act of kindness that was extended towards them." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
Mark Nebuda
9-12 Industrial Technology Instructor
Being There
"As a superintendent, I pride myself on being in the hallways, getting in classrooms when I can, and also attending as many events that our students are a part of.
Sometimes you can see students who have a look like something isn't right. I appreciate that they will come to me when I call them over to ask them what is going on or how can I help.
It may be something that is out of my control but I believe they appreciate that someone is willing to ask what is going on or offer help. This shows them that it is okay to talk about what is on their mind and to also reach out to others who may be feeling down and out." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

Making memories
"Some of the memories that make me the proudest to be in the field of education come from behind the scenes of the regular school day. It's the teamwork and the dedication from teachers before school, after school, or during the summer. It's the laughs in the back-to-school aisles when we run into each other because we just can't help but buy extra crayons, scissors, folders, and notebooks for students who may not have them.
It's the camaraderie from teachers and staff getting together to make tutus after school ensuring students have an awesome and unforgettable 2.22.22. Going above and beyond is something that just comes naturally for so many educators and here at Shelby-Rising City we are lucky to have the best!" #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
Heather Thompson,
Principal
What is your Why?
"My greatest moments include seeing my former students as adults and hearing about their lives. My favorite was when a student told me that "math is no fun, but you somehow make it bearable!"
The number of relationships I have built over the years with students make each day worthwhile in the classroom. I love math and I get so excited when my students get the light bulb to click!" #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
Becky Schueth,
High School Math
Why I love teaching!
"I had a 1st-grade student who would refuse to work and would get mad. The classroom teacher would try to talk to him but he would only get more upset. He would often come to my room to calm down and get some work done.
One day he saw I had a blanket and put it over the table. He said it was too bright in my room and proceeded to go under the table. Then, after a few minutes, he asked for his work. I asked him how he was going to see his paper and he wasn't sure. I asked if a flashlight would work and he said yes and completed his work.
When he went back to class, we shared this with the classroom teacher. She then covered one of her tables for him to do his homework when the lights were too bright. While this worked most of the time, there was one day that was really bad.
He came into my room to work and all of a sudden started tossing chairs, desks, and everything off my shelves. I took the other students to my office and shut the door and asked a para and another teacher to stay as support. I had to calm him so we sat on the floor. While we were on the floor and he started to calm down, I asked him what was wrong. He said he was hot.
So, I asked the other teacher to grab a fan and we set it so that it was blowing on him. As we continued sitting there, he told me that when his temperature changes he gets mad and can't control it. So, we came up with a plan when this starts to happen that he could use the fan in the classroom or my room to cool down. He started doing better in school and made me realize that knowing your students well helps you to be a better teacher." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

What stands out to you?
"During our book fair this year, two school employees had donated money so students who could not afford books could buy them. This is in addition to our Husky Heart program, which was funded by our change war. The two employees put their faith in me to identify those kids and put the money to good use.
One day, we had a student who was browsing, and they had that look in their eye. I didn't know about that student's situation at the time. Because of the donations of two employees, I was able to tell that student they could pick out some books from the fair. That student was so touched that they cried, and even wrote a thank you note to the donors. We were able to help many students through their donations. However, this one was particularly touching." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

🚨Covid-19 Update for SRC🚨
Covid-19 Update for SRC
With the new CDC guidelines, we will be following what is recommended when it comes to positive cases.
Positive case by test or symptoms --- out for 5 days & can come back to school on day 6 - a mask is recommended but not required until day 10. If you have symptoms prior to a positive test, the five day count begins previous to that (ex: if symptoms Saturday but tested positive Tuesday, you may return on Thursday).
Thank you for your flexibility with this evolving situation. We continue to put the safety of our students and staff as our #1 priority. If you have any questions, comments or concerns; please contact Mr. Tejkl on his office phone or through email.
