IRE Family Update
March 2, 2024
Hello Indian Run Families,
It's hard to believe that we have just 2 more full weeks of school until Spring Break! March is here!
This coming week, we will be celebrating Read Across America Week at Indian Run. We will have a variety of fun reading activities that students will do throughout the week along with a Spirit Week! Details on daily themes can be found below.
Speaking of reading...Do you have a reading schedule/plan in your home with your student? If not, what better time to start than now! Consider making it a routine to read alongside your student every night this coming week. Maybe start small with 5-10 minutes and enjoy the gift of reading together to celebrate Read Across America Week.
Please see below for other Indian Run updates and have a great weekend!

2nd & 4th Grade Families
During the month of March, students in 2nd and 4th grade will be administered tests of cognitive abilities. Testing in this area is a requirement by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
- IRE 4th Grade students will be testing the week of March 4-8.
- IRE 2nd Grade students will be testing the week of March 11-15.
Parents will be notified of results once they are received back from the testing company and will be uploaded into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. When viewing test scores it is important to interpret them as representing a range of ability rather than a precise, specific or unchanging point on a score scale. It is also important to keep in mind that there are many factors that affect a child’s school achievement such as effort, attention, persistence, attitude and support at home and school.
Please be aware that these tests measure both general and specific reasoning abilities. Average scores on this assessment fall between 90 to 110. Above average scores range from 111 to 127. A score at or above 128 on the assessment meets the criteria established by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for a superior cognitive abilities gifted identification. Students who have a score of 127 will be afforded a cognitive ability retest opportunity in May and communication will come from the gifted services team regarding that opportunity. Students who have a score of 112 or higher on this assessment will participate in an Ohio Department of Education and Workforce required test of creative thinking skills in mid-May.
If you have any questions regarding the administration of this assessment, please reach out to Kari Kinder, Indian Run Elementary Gifted Intervention Specialist.
