As the school year comes to an end, I want our scholars to understand that learning must continue! Please encourage your scholars to take the time to read each day for at least 20 minutes. Just take a look at the chart below to see how vitally important it is. Please use the options below to connect with summer reading programs, reading apps, and virtual summer camp activities. Stay safe and keep reading!

The APS Summer Techtivities Google Site contains resources to keep your student(s) engaged in digital content throughout the summer months! Provides access to Minecraft, coding, maker activities, virtual field trips, reading, and so much more.

Fulton County Public Library Summer Reading Program

This year's summer reading theme at the Fulton County Public Library is "Imagine Your Story." The program is 100% virtual and open to all ages, so be sure to signup and log your reading and activities online or in the Beanstack app. Also join FCPL on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for story time and much more! Scholastic Summer Read-a-Palooza

Scholastic Home Base is a fun, safe, and completely free online destination where kids can create their own avatar, interact with their favorite Scholastic characters, play games, and read books. Scroll down to bottom of page and download login info.

Barnes & Noble Summer Reading and Journal

Win a free book this summer by reading 8 books, completing the journal linked above, and returning it to Barnes and Noble between July 1st and August 31st.

Apps Available in MyBackpack for Summer Reading


The Audible app is now available through MyBackPack. Students and staff have access to hundreds of titles while schools are closed. You don't have to use additional sign on credentials. Just click on the app and search for a title or browse by the topics listed on the page, select a book and begin listening.

Class Pass

Don't forget that thanks to a partnership with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, all Atlanta Public School students are patrons of the public library!

1. There is no card involved. Students use the APS username and password.

2. There are no late fees.

3. If student loses a book, the fee is a writing assignment.

Class Pass allows the following checkouts:

Print checkouts:

50 books, 10 CDs, 5 DVDs

Digital checkouts:

Hoopla - 10 downloads per month

Overdrive - 10 items every 30 days

Axis 360 - 5 titles per month


Keep reading on Myon through the summer! Use your credentials to access Myon through MyBackpack and you will have access to hundreds of titles on various topics. You can either browse genres, or enter a search for specific titles of interest. Myon has a wealth of reading material, including books about DIY projects and hobbies to keep you busy throughout the summer! Enjoy the magic of Myon this summer!

Free Printable Summer Reading Chart and Reward System

Please feel free to use the chart and reward system below to keep track of what your child is reading and to reward their progress if you'd like. Download the file below to print.

How the chart and reward system work:

  • Have your kids read for 20 minutes, set the timer.*
  • When the timer goes off, have them color in one dot.
  • When they get to number 5, they earn a coupon.
  • When they get to the end, they can get a Grand Prize coupon!

Summer Reading Log

Here is an additional reading log that may be used by older students who prefer to keep a running list of titles. Please feel free to use the one above or this one. Students can keep track of the book title, the number of minutes spent reading, and whether they enjoyed the book or not. Click here to print a copy.
