PRE-K 3, 4A AND 4B
MEET AND GREET THIS FRIDAY!
Dear Parents,
Expectations for this day:
1. Parents will be given a checklist of items that they will use to make sure they have all the necessary school supplies.
2. You will place the supply item or items in a bin provided and labeled with name of item that belongs in that bin,
3. You will turn in your checked off list to your child's teacher. If you forgot to bring an item, we will be able to send you a reminder, since you left that item unchecked.
4. Children will greet their teachers and take a tour of the room.(Pre-K 4A, Pre-K 4B or Pre-K 3.)
5. Parents please explain to your child that this is not a school day yet. We respectfully ask that the children do not begin playing with toys in the classroom. They will have to wait until the first day of school. Thank you parents!
6. Teachers will be speaking Spanish to the children when they meet them.
7. If you have a question and do not understand Spanish, Mrs. Farias, the Director of the Juan Diego Academy will be there to answer all your questions in English.
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS TUESDAY, SEPT. 6TH AND IT IS A HALF-DAY! BRING A SNACK! BREAKFAST WILL BE SERVED, BUT NO LUNCH THAT DAY. NO EXTENDED CARE THAT DAY AND DISMISSAL IS AT 11:45AM FOR PRE-K STUDENTS.
Where do I drop off my child? (please allow a 10 to 15 minute time for drop off in the morning and please be patient, as the first days of school are slower than normal) Anytime after 8:00 will count as a tardy. If you bring your child at 7:45 would give you enough time to get your child signed in on time each day.
WHERE DO I DROP OFF MY CHILD?
DUE TO SEPARATION ANXIETY on the first days, please do the following:
If you feel the need to park your car and come in with your child on the first weeks of school, please do not park in the front of the school. You will need to follow the carpool (for the older children) to the back parking lot where you will see many parking spaces for you to bring your child in. You will need to walk between the school and the nun's home to get to the front of the school. You should not go in the back doors of the school because the older students K-8 use these doors as their entrance.
May I stay with my child in the classroom if they are crying? The best thing to do is to give your child a big hug and kiss, and remind them you will be back to pick them up very soon. When you leave, they may be crying but please know that it never lasts more than 5 or 10 min. after mom or dad has left. The teachers will get your child involved in playing and they will be fine. You can certainly call the office to check on your child's well-being. For most children, parents staying in the classroom will only prolong the anxiety. Teachers will help you decide what is best.
What do I do when my child is ready to be dropped off in the front of the school?
The carpool area for Pre-K 3 and 4 AB, will be in the front of the school around the cul-de-sac and up to the front door. THE CARS FOLLOW THE ROUTE AROUND THE CUL-DE-SAC IN A TRAIN FORMATION AND PARENTS DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CARS AND DO NOT PARK IN THE SPACES IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL. Teachers will go out at 7:45 and go up to each car as YOUR CAR approaches the front door. Parents are to stay in their cars while the teachers go to you and you sign your child in. YOU MUST SIGN-IN YOUR CHILD BEFORE DROPPING THEM OFF AND SIGN THEM OUT BEFORE PICKING THEM UP EVERY SINGLE DAY. This is a Washington State requirement and we can lose our license if parents do not sign-in at the start of school or sign-out at the end of the day.
THE PROCEDURE IS THE SAME FOR AFTER SCHOOL PICK-UP. TEACHERS WILL GO TO YOUR CAR AT 2:45 P.M.TO DROP OFF YOUR CHILD AS YOU DRIVE AROUND THE CUL-DE-SAC. You will sign your child out when the teacher brings your child to your car. Please again, do not park in the front parking area and do not get out of your car.
Need to talk to the secretary? You need to park in the back of the school. If you park in the front during carpool, the children are not going to be safely brought to your car because people are backing out of front parking spaces during the carpool train.
When can I use the front parking spaces??? After 8:00 a.m. (Oops, you are tardy!) or after 3:05 p.m. If you do not pick up by 3:15 p.m. you will be charged extended care rates.
What if my child has an older sibling that needs to be dropped off or picked up in the back parking lot?
Pre-K students are arriving at 7:45 a.m. and in the afternoon are dismissed at 2:45 p.m. This is earlier than the older students. This gives you time to drop off or pick up your Pre-K student first, then proceed to the back to drop off or pick up the older sibling. Never send the older brother or sister to pick up your Pre-K student after school. They are not allowed to sign-out their little brother or sister and we cannot let them go.
I guarantee this process becomes easier with time especially since the teachers going out will recognize your cars faster with each day and students will get used to the routine.
We hope to send a map home with the drawing showing the directions for carpool.
It is going to be an exciting year!
All teachers will send home a FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL letter. Watch for it please!
Sincerely yours,
Mrs. Farias/Director of the Juan Diego Academy
