Lil Steamer Families --
Who’s that new Principal (for a Day)? It’s Illinois State Representative Tony McCombie!
Principal Hoese partnered with the Illinois Principals Association for local legislators to serve as principals in area schools, and Rep. McCombie answered the call!
She visited all the classrooms, participated in 4th grade math games, read with 3rd grade students, created art with 2nd graders, and listened to educational concerns of staff.
Rep. McCombie was impressed with all of the activities, opportunities, safety, and positivity of #SteamerNation at the Greatest Little Elementary School in the Universe!

We continue to promote social emotional learning on our announcements each day. This week on Thoughtful Thursday, we asked students to think of one thing that they have done that makes them proud of themselves. On Feel Good Friday, we reminded students that mistakes are proof that you are trying. We all make mistakes and learn from them. Students were asked to repeat the phrase, “I give myself permission to make mistakes.”
Literacy Corner
Welcome! As parents you have the best opportunity to help your child become lifelong readers!
We are here to help! Each week you’ll find some useful tidbits for you to do at home that can help your child become a better reader. You’ll find links to great online resources, tips to help your child, skills to work on, and some background information to better understand what your child needs to be a great reader.
Over the next several weeks we’ll be talking about several different skills and pillars of reading for both Kindergarten – 2nd grade and 3rd – 5th grade. Along with some quick information about each skill, we’ll share some says you can help your child improve in that skill. This week we’ll be sharing some resources to use.

2nd Grade Accelerated Reader (AR) Party!
The 2nd graders had a goal of 5 points for their first quarter goal in Accelerated Reader! They earn points by reading books on their designated reading level and then taking comprehension tests about the books they read! Depending on how well they do on the test, they earn points toward their goal. Once they reached the 5 point goal, they were able to attend the AR party as their reward. The first quarter AR party was a game day! They brought in their own games from home to share with their friends and got to play during the guided reading block. We had a lot of fun trying different games! The 2nd quarter goal will be 7.5 points.
