Esports Update Newsletter
First quarterly update of the 23'-24' school year
Off to the races!
Bixby Esports is off to a roaring start as both of our High School and Middle School programs begin its first year with computers and a class dedicated to Esports! Esports is a relatively new phenomenon and as such, many do not know the first thing about esports. As this is our first update of this school year, I wanted to not only highlight our programs, but hopefully expand your knowledge of what more and more students are competing in!
What is Esports?
Enrichment
Esports is a way to bring students together to compete in video games. As you may be aware of, 60-90% of kids play video games in some form and many of those games are played in a competitive environment. Esports is another avenue for students to enrich their school experience and engage with other students.
Accessibility
Esports can also provide an accessible competitive venue for students who are willing – but unable – to participate in traditional sports. Esports students come from a variety of backgrounds and provides a common ground for students.
Practicing and competing
Esports consist of practicing and competing in leagues that other schools participate in, in the same way traditional sports practice and compete against other schools in their respective leagues.
How does Esports Benefit our students?
Critical Thinking-Strategic Planning
In Esports, students think critically about strategies both during and after matches where we analyze what went right and what went wrong in reviews of recordings of the matches they previously played. Esports students go over strategies with coaches and their fellow students and engage in conversations about what works not only for themselves, but with the team.
Collegiate Programs.
Esports also has an exploding scene in College, with many college starting programs in the past few years and starting to offer scholarships. Many Oklahoma colleges have Esports programs, ranging from clubs to full programs comparable to other major college sports. For example, OU has a rapidly expanding program, is giving many scholarships out, and even building a full complex/dorm for there Esports program.
Highlighting our program!
Lots of Matches!
So far, in just the first month or so of competition, our combined total of matches is 70 matches and 4 tournaments, with the High School Program having around 65 matches and 3 tournaments and the Middle School program having 5 matches and 1 tournament. In Esports, we have 2 seasons, one per semester, so this pace will not slow down all year!
Our High School Program
The nature of Esports allows us to compete in several different games that accommodate a wide variety of students, with some games having 3-5 person teams and some having 1 person teams.
Our High School program has 16 teams, with 9 being team games and 6 being single player games.
Our Middle School program has 5 teams, with all 5 being team games/formats.
Team highlight
Each quarterly update, we will highlight an outstanding team that not only encompasses what Esports is all about, but are exceptional at exhibiting our spartan values!
High School Siege Team!
This is our Rainbow Six Siege Team! This team competes in a game that not only takes a lot of skill, practice, and knowledge of the game, but takes a lot of teamwork and communication to perform at the high level needed to compete. This is our most senior team, with three seniors and two juniors. Every team member has been a part of the HS program since its inception last spring. Not only are they skilled at what they compete in, but also are exceptional students! With an Overall GPA of 3.76(Unweighted). Their current record is 7-2, they are very likely to make state and do well overall!

We want to thank everyone who made Bixby Esports possible and everyone who continues to support us!
Bixby Esports would not be where we are now without the support of our awesome administration and principals.
We also could not do what we do without the support from our parents involved and the community.
