Updates from our Principal
Good afternoon Firebird Nation:
One week down, one week to go. This year has just blown by. The excitement and energy of our students keeps building each day as summer gets closer and closer. There are a number of events as well as things to remember as we come to a close.
This week at Falcon Middle school, choir performed on Tuesday. Thursday night band held their concert. Both band and choir did amazing! It is wonderful to see the amount of talent we have at FMS; both musically, theatrically, as well as with our visual arts. It is really neat to see the different ways our middle school students use to express themselves positively. Great work!
On Wednesday night NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) held their inductions. Super cool to the see the number of students who strive not only to be successful academically, but to uphold good character and wish to serve others. These achievements are not small achievements. As each student moves forward in life, what they have learned through working hard will serve them well.
A few reminders this week as we move into our final week of school. First, please remember dress code and student code of conduct still apply. Students need to make sure they are making good choices to dress appropriately on campus. There are diagrams posted throughout the school explaining what is appropriate and what is not. If any student has a question, please come see your grade level admin.
Secondly, Chromebook return begins on Monday. Again, it is hard to believe we are this point! 6th grade will turn in their Chromebook and charger on Monday, May 22nd, in their reading class. 7th grade will be Tuesday, May 23rd, and 8th grade will be Wednesday, May 24th . Students will be asked to wipe their device down and the teacher will be looking and logging any damage. Chromebook make up day will be on May 25th .
Next week is 8th grade promotion. All 8th graders need to maintain behavior to ensure they are all able to participate in end of year celebration. On Wednesday, May 24th, 8th graders will have a mandatory promotion rehearsal. We want all students to know what they need to do on Thursday. Thursday, May 25th, will be our 8th grade promotion at 9:30 am! We are keeping our fingers crossed in regard to weather. But our hope is the rain will stay away to ensure everything we have planned goes off without a hitch. We are sending out separate communication to 8th grade families in regard to a few reminders, but mostly about our potential back up plan if the rain does not stay away. Please be on the lookout!
My final reminder, please have your student(s) check PowerSchool to ensure all assignments are in and grades are where they would like them to be. Please encourage them to reach out to teachers if there are any questions or concerns. I want all of our students to finish the school year strong.
Thanks a bunch and have a great weekend!
Mrs. Elena Forehand
Principal

7th Grade Engineering students in Ms. Brundage's class completed their final Evidence of Learning project for the semester. The project asked the 7th graders to design toys for students who have occupational therapy or physical therapy goals. The 7th graders were given a set of criteria including the students' likes/dislikes and therapeutic goals. Applying the steps of the design process they have learned in class, students planned a design for their toy, built the toy, and tested prototypes with students from Ms. Packard's SSN class. Next, they will discuss how they might redesign their prototype to make it even better. Ms. Packard's students had a great time testing the toys, and Ms. Brundage's students were very proud of their work. Toys included: a version of cornhole, a basketball dribbling and passing game, a shape sorting game, and a cup stacking math game. Check out the video to see some of the toys in action.

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
We have made it to the end of our construction updates for the year! Construction is just about complete…less than 2 weeks to go on the expansion! All of the interior work is pretty much complete. Teams are completing their walkthroughs and identifying anything that needs to be fixed. We expect our inspections to take place over the next couple of weeks. Crews are working to finish the outdoor recreation areas for the 6th grade recess and athletics. New furniture will start arriving and get installed in all of the areas over the next three weeks. Once school ends, there is just one final project to complete…the removal of the dividing wall! The wall you see in this picture will be coming down during the first two weeks of June so that the new wing and the existing Bennett Ranch building can officially join together as one new campus complex. Bennett Ranch Elementary will serve all BRES PreK - 5th Grade Students. The new Falcon Middle Annex will service the 6th grade students from FMS. Over the summer, new signage will be getting installed to help with branding on all of the different areas. We will also be hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the start of the new year. Thanks for all of your support as we completed this exciting new construction on the Firebird Nation Campus!
