Room 18 Updates
February 1st, 2016
What have we been up to?
The Chapter 6 lesson this week will ask us to put all of our learned fraction skills together to rename whole numbers when adding and subtracting fractions! Hold on to your hats! We are currently about half way through Chapter 6! Please look for graded math assignments that are coming home, because I highly encourage students to "fix up" their work and resubmit it for a better grade!
We are also noticing that our Math notebooks that we use to take notes and practices our skills in are RUNNING OUT! Most students are in need of a second notebook for math... check with your kiddo! (It doesn't have to be blue!)
Math Facts
Math facts are an important tool that help us become more efficient in our math practice. Please continue to study math facts on a regular basis. Using old quizzes that come home in the Data Binder are a great way to start!
Spelling
Spelling will be business as usual this week! Spelling list will come home today on the homework packet! If your child is in the vocabulary study group (yellow), please don't be alarmed that they do not have 10 spelling words each week. Their word study target is a little different than those children who are sorting word patterns.
Reading
Quarter 3 has officially started and that means new AR goals! All of our points are reset to 0! Let's work hard to keep our kiddos motivated to read!
Inquiry
I am very impressed with the quality of Slide presentations from last week! I am even more impressed that so many kiddos were committed to doing well on their project and logged in at home to work on it! Way to go 4th graders!
This week, We will start a new read aloud: Esperanza Rising it is a truly amazing story! Click the title for details!
Data Binders
I am very impressed with the way the students have utilized their Data Binders in the first half of the school year! It is very exciting to see their individual growth charted and tracked over time! Please continue to review your child's data on a weekly basis and write them an encouraging note on the Parent Signature page! Your support means the world to them!
During this quarter, I would like parents to be involved more on the goal setting page. I will send a blank goal page home and it will give you an opportunity to discuss your child's weekly goals with them and help them to set meaningful, reachable goals!
IXL Super Bowl Showdown!
Our MVP's from last week were:
1. Nathan- 3 hours and 21 minutes!
2. Evan- 2 hours and 35 minutes!
3. Massimo- 2 hours and 16 minutes!
Way to go!
Math homework this week= 1 hour of IXL practice!
To reach our classroom GOAL and earn the Super Bowl party, EACH student must log 3 IXL hours before February 5th!
The highest, overall earners in the challenge will win a MVP pizza party!
Valentine Read-a-Thon
