We hope our 6th graders had a wonderful Campus Camp experience. We appreciate the support of our families and volunteers who helped make this a special week at BMMS. A better school starts with each one of us!

April is Autism Awareness Month
During Thursday’s Homeroom lesson, students learned more about Autism. Some students at BMMS at autistic. This video helps people better understand people who are autisitic. It is worth the watch. I appreciated it when the speaker talks about “not being broken” and how his experience does not represent all people with autism. We are all different because of our different experiences which should be celebrated. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RymaWxO29Sc
Congrats Leslie Skelly - BMMS Volunteer of the Year
BMMS is proud to announce that Leslie Skelly, EFBMMS Vice President, is our Volunteer of the Year. Leslie and the EFBMMS have raised monies that have directly impacted our students in the classrooms. Through the years, these donations have been used to provide teacher grants. Her work has also made our Marquee, the MakersSpace, the Collaboratory, the Quad Redesign, the Wellness Center and Library Redesign possible. We were able to provide seating, tables, chairs, outdoor tables, and the sensory path for our PAL program. All of these initiatives are helping to improve our student’s middle school experience at BMMS. Leslie was an important leader in each of these projects. Thank you Leslie for all you have done for BMMS!
First Tech Robotics Team is First Rate
The FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team, Mechanical Advantage, recently competed at the San Diego Regional Championship and the team came in 1st place, receiving the Inspire Award, for best overall performance. They are one of only two teams in San Diego that have qualified to attend the World Championship! The World Championship will be in Houston from April 19-23rd. There are over 5,000 FTC teams worldwide. Of these teams, only 159 will have a chance to compete at the World Championship this year. Good Luck Mechanical Advantage!
Community Equity Conversation
Last week, we were invited to participate in a community equity conversation among the MCHS feeder schools. There was a tech glitch. We will join the next one on April 28. Below is information on signing up: https://bit.ly/3Jde8j0

We will offer a series of interactive workshops, two of which you will select to attend, on topics identified by students as their greatest challenges today. Facilitators will include principals from 7 PUSD secondary schools, including BMMS’s principal, and various representatives from our community. I helped lead the Dealing with Academic Pressure workshop. This program has been presented to more than 6000 of our parents since we began these workshops in 2012.
