Bob Slater AM MMgt BE (Civ Eng) GradDipAdmin GradDipGeront FAIM FIEAust FAAG MFIA psc qtc
Bob has had a variety of careers as an officer in the Australian Army, civil engineer, general manager of an aged care organisation and in fundraising. Bob is community minded with involvements past and present in a number of community groups at Board and committee levels including Rotary.
Bob’s interest in stroke devolved from his wife Ruth having a stroke in 2006 and witnessing shortcomings in acute, sub-acute and community-based support. He has involved Rotary in the National Stroke Foundation’s ‘Know Your Numbers’ program and physical improvements to St Vincent’s Hospital’s Bolte Wing. His current interest is in developing a one-on-one ‘Life After Stroke’ mentoring program coordinated by SAV and Rotary as part of non-clinical rehabilitation to assist stroke survivors to reach their occupational potential.
Bob received the award of Member, Order of Australia in June 1992 for service to military engineering and the community.
Bob and Ruth have three daughters and eight grandchildren.
Ade Djajamihardja and Kate Stephens
Ade Djajamihardja has been actively engaged in the film and television industry at a national and international level for the past 25 years. Ade's professional career began when he floor-managed the news for ABCTV at just 19. He has worked on such iconic Australian programs as: "Countdown Revolution”, “The Big Gig", "DAAS KAPITAL, "The Late Show" and "Phoenix”. Overseas expatriate tenures then followed in Singapore and Malaysia where he held both senior producer and Chief Executive Officer positions. He also co-produced the biggest historical epic film in Malaysia's history which was also the first film from Malaysia to be short-listed to be considered for Oscar nomination. Ade, with wife and primary carer, Kate Stephens, own and run A2K Media, which specialises in media collaborations with Asia- - and beyond. As life's twists would have it, Ade joined the board of the not-for-profit organisation, Disability Media Australia, just three days prior to suffering a massive brain haemorrhage stroke in July 2011. Ade required emergency life-saving brain surgery under an induced coma, seven months in hospital, learning how to sit upright, feed himself, and then learning how to read and speak clearly and coherently. He is now in the process of learning to walk (and hopefully dance) again! Ade together with his wife Kate have just written their first book, The Little Book of Hope for Stroke Survivors, Care Givers and Anyone Else Going Through a Really Shit Time (www.LittleBookOfHope.com). Ade’s wish is that this book will inspire, motivate and give hope to stroke survivors and care givers as well as anyone else who may be struggling.
