Love Each Other, Learn Together, Lead the Way
Tavia's Thoughts
Remember this snippet below from Fall Break???? Well, it still needs some attention this week, especially this week. We are coming off a long overdue break and rituals and routines need some revisiting in order to make for a smooth transition back and a tighter end to the school year.
A break, is a break. No matter if it's two days or two weeks....a break is a break. With a a little mini vacation or any time off comes selective amnesia, meaning students forget what routines and expectations were put in place prior to the break. Spend some time the first couple of days refocusing the students by re-teaching, reviewing, and practicing positive behavior and routines.
Embedded is a nice article from the Responsive Classroom on reteaching routines.

Let's continue to love each other, learn together, and lead the way.

Emily ' s Enthusiastic Information
Hope all of you had a restful spring break and plenty of time to sharpen your saws to finish the year strong! If you have an opportunity, ask some of the fifth graders that went on the DC trip about the motorcade they witnessed! We had an amazing time and I'm sure they would love to share! Have a wonderful week!
Maggie's Moments
I know….you are on spring break and I sincerely hope that you are thoroughly enjoying your time with friends and family and “sharpening your saw”. That being said, I have to tell you that I was a bit disappointed last Friday when coaches looked at the responses from the various schools in regard to YOUR personalized learning “wants and needs”. PSE had a grand total of 2.2% of staff responding. I have since found out that Artavia’s went to her clutter folder, so I am inferring she was not the only one. (That folder is beginning to get on my nerves). So we are going to try this again…..
When you look at the district plan for personalized learning for teachers, you have 12 of a total of 36 hours that you can choose a topic and plan that fits with your growth plan. The IC’s would like to offer some of those choices at our Personalized Learning Conference the last week of July. We have many teacher leaders and coaches in Shelby County who have already stepped forward to share some of their own learning on many different topics. We simply need to know your “wants and needs”.
Go to the link above and complete this quick survey before Tuesday April 12 that will help guide us in setting up this great opportunity.
Also, look at this link for other offerings in our area….this site is updated often as coaches and Mrs. Shields become aware of other personalized learning opportunities in our area.
Thank you….
Hymer's Hype
Testing tip: Don't forget... student initiation of testing accommodations has changed!!! Students no longer have to initiate the use of their accommodation. What does this look like? If a student gets a reader, their buddy should just sit down beside them and say, "ok, I'm going to read this to you." If a student gets a scribe, the buddy should just start writing for the student. IF... a student will not allow you to give them their accommodations, that is the ONLY time that it will not be provided. In this instance, we have to contact the parent, document, and contact me immediately.
I-teams: Don't forget we have i-teams this Thursday, April 14th. We only have a couple more meetings before the end of the school year. Please read through the email I sent out a couple of weeks ago and start working through the i-teams document.
