Principal Update

I can't believe how quickly the first two weeks of school have gone! It has been a wonderful whirlwind of meeting families and students. The children have been amazing and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them.

Over the last two weeks I have met with all of the classes. My goal was to get to know the children and give them an opportunity to know more about me. We did some team building games together. One of the games with the older students was giant Jenga! Each block had a question on the bottom that they had to answer. These included things like "What is your favorite subject in school?" or "If you had a million dollars what would you buy?". As they pulled out a block they answered the question on it. It was very interesting to hear their answers! With our younger grades we either read a book or played a game to learn the names of all the friends in our class. We also visited Mrs. Curley's office to check it out. The children loved finding all the different Mickey Mouse figures and the Cubs Bobble Head Collection.

I have really enjoyed getting to know each of the children a little bit better! We have amazing students here at Whittier Elementary!

School Portraits

Our annual school portraits will be taken on September 19th, 2017. All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook and school files. There is no need to send money in now. You will receive proofs and pricing information from your child's session. Be sure to dress your best! Retake day will be on October 18th.

New Morning Drop Off Procedures

In order to make drop off in the morning smoother and quicker for everyone we have made a few adjustments to our routines. Below is information on our drop off procedures (Please click the PDF link to open). If you have any questions please feel free to contact our school office or Mrs. Curley at 262-359-2110.

MAP Assessments

Over the next two weeks students will participate in MAP Assessments. These computer based assessments helps teachers understand what your child already knows and what they are ready to learn next. For more specific information about the MAP assessment please check out these parent resources.

How can you help? Please encourage your child to do their best, make sure they get a good nights rest, and eat a hearty breakfast each morning!

Whittier PTA- Reflections Program

All students at Whittier may participate in the Reflections art contest that is sponsored by our PTA. The theme this year is "Within Reach." The art categories are Visual Arts, Photography, Film, Dance, Music, and Literature. Reflections is a great way for students to express their individuality through art and receive recognition for their efforts!

An interest form will be sent home in your child's folder in the next week or two. Please indicate any categories your student(s) are interested in and return the form to school. We will send home the official rules for each category you indicate. Please look for information about Reflections on the PTA and Whittier Facebook pages.

Any additional questions can be directed to Lisa Taffe, Reflections Coordinator.
