How can homework grow your child's emotional maturity?

Homework, ick! Well wait a minute...there might be a homework that helps your child and you. A true Win-Win situation. In education we are seeing a trend of students who come to school and all of the hard paths are or have been swept clean by parents, teachers, friends, family, etc. I mean, that is what a good parent does, right? Look out for you kiddo, keep them safe, make sure they have great opportunities. And if you are like me, because all of the adults in the home are working, we are usually rushing around trying to fill their evenings with experiences that are meaningful and give round out their personal strengths. Whoa! Whew , that is a lot. So when things get hard, what does Jen McClure do? She probably jumps in an saves her drowning kids. Not loading the dishwasher fast enough, I'll help you. Did a stinky job of mowing the lawn, I will go back and mow over. Homework is difficult, let me help (hint) at the right answer. It is natural. But how does this effect our kids in the long run?

More and more kids are struggling with how to accomplish a task that requires problem solving, perspective, or simply being creative or investing in some hard work. If it is hard, then take the easy way out, and ask a friend or an adult for help.

What would Mr. Covey say about this?

He tells a great story about when he was a child his dad asked him to be in charge of the lawn. Take a peek at this and think about how much trust and responsibility this builds. I wonder how many kids will have new homework....taking care of the lawn. :)

Parent/Teacher Conference Sign Up

Our goal = 100% attendance at parent/teacher conferences

Below is a link to sign up for your child's parent teacher conference. Each teacher has a goal of meeting with a family member of 100% of their students. This is a big deal for us, and we hope that you will share in our belief that a face to face meeting with the teacher is a great way to make sure your child is on track to be successful in school.

When you login you will find tabs with grade levels at the top of the sign up and you will need to choose one time for each of your Siegrist children. Once you sign up you will be reminded 3 days in advance of your appointment. If you are unable to sign up or have technical difficulties, our office staff will be happy to help you if you call the office at 816-858-5977.
