Payroll & Benefits: Critical information for the end of the year
With the end of the school year fast approaching, the payroll department just wanted to send you a friendly reminder that any pay changes for June, July, and/or August are due to the payroll office no later than May 19, 2016. After May 19, 2016, any changes in your direct deposit will not go into effect until September 2016.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: if you change banks, close accounts, etc, your check will be processed incorrectly and we will not be able to reissue your payroll until after the wire from the bank is returned to us.
All payroll stubs will be posted on your SISFIN portal with deposit dates listed below.
If the address listed on your paycheck stub is incorrect, please submit an address change via your SISFIN portal. If you do not know your log in, please contact payroll and we can send this information to employees. This information cannot be emailed, the payroll department can send in the interoffice mail or you can pick this up from the payroll department during regular business hours (8-4). As an employee, you are also responsible for submitting your address change to Blue Cross.
We will be releasing checks for teachers and salaried paraprofessionals as follows:
June 20th payroll will be deposited June 20, 2016
July 20th payroll will be deposited June 29, 2016
August 20th payroll will be deposited June 30, 2016.
We will be releasing checks for building administrators and building secretaries as follows:
June 20th payroll will be deposited June 20, 2016
July 20th payroll will be deposited June 29, 2016
All 12 Month Employees will be paid as scheduled.
Also, please don’t forget that all health, dental, and vision insurance changes, additions, etc for open enrollment are due to the payroll office no later than May 13, 2016. NO EXCEPTIONS!
If you will no longer be with the district and are moving out of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas City area and currently have the Blue Care plan, you may want to consider changing your plan to a PPO plan because Blue Care is an HMO plan. Therefore, it’s possible the HMO plan does not reach to the area you are relocating to, so you would be required to return to an approved area to be seen by your primary care physician. Also, if you have a child who will be going away to college, please contact customer service with Blue Cross to sign up for the Away from Home Care.
Friday is also the deadline to opt in or out of the flexible spending open enrollment. You need to complete this regardless if you choose to participate or not. Information about the flexible spending opportunities is here.
Need more information? Have questions about enrollment or the benefits of this program? Come to CO on May 16, 8am - 4 pm, or May 17th 8am - 3:30 pm to meet with Joy.
Thank you in advance. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Shawna Leeper at 489-7009 or Linda Fisk at 816-489-7016.

Group Term Life Insurance Changes
Employees who make more than $50,000 may notice a variance in their pay this month for Group Term Life Insurance.
Per IRS regulations, life insurance paid by the employer up to $50,000 is not subject to any type of tax. Any amount over the initial $50,000 must be reported as income based on a premium table. Therefore, any amount of salary over $50,000 will be reported as income on your W2.
You are required to pay taxes on this amount, which is based on your age and income over $50,000. Previously this tax has been withheld all at once in December. Starting with this next payroll we will play a one time catch-up on the taxes that have been due since January and then going forward the taxes will be withheld every pay period instead of in one lump sum at the end of the year.
If you have any questions please contact Linda Fisk at 489-7016 or Shawna Leeper 489-7009 in the Payroll office.
Conscious Discipline Column -- from BOSCO's Betsy Warren
Do you know the meaning behind the word "discipline"? Discipline comes from the word "disciple", which is rooted in the Latin word that means "to teach". Opportunities for discipline occurs during moments of conflict between the needs and wants of the people involved. How we resolve these moments teaches our children to resolve conflicts for the rest of their lives. Teaching moments will show our students how to treat others when a disagreement arises and how problems can be solved. The greater the connection between a teacher and student, the greater the chances are that the conflict will be respectfully resolved.
Check out chapter 2 in the "I Love You Rituals" book by Dr. Bailey for more information on the meaning behind discipline.

ICYMI (In Case You Missed It): Technology Update from Tony Arbisi
Updating Staff MacBooks
There are still a number of staff Macbooks that do not have the most up to date operating system on them. I know it takes a bit of time, but please take the time to run this update as it is an important part of protecting your device and your data as well as reducing technical issues. A few tips to help this go well.
- Disable File vault: Choose Apple menu ->system preferences -> security. Then Click Filevault and Turn off Filevault
- Delete or move photos and videos if you have a large amount to free up space.
- Don’t forget to back up or copy any important data you have. It takes a short time but can save you a lot of pain later.
Retiring/Resigning: Device Collection
to collect your equipment. If for some reason you will not be at school on the 19th, please let me know so that we may schedule an alternative time to turn your equipment in. This is only for equipment assigned specifically to you. Not classroom devices or other equipment.
For resigning & retiring staff, you will have until July 1 to access your Google Drive and Gmail account. You will also need to delete any social media accounts you have created with your work email -- did you have a Twitter account for your class, club, or team? Contact a technology integration specialist for help with Google or Melissa McConnell if you need assistance with disabling social media accounts.
Using devices over the summer
