What is it & where is it found

The Hawksbill sea turtle is found in commonly found in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina. It's a medium- sized turtle that has a long, oval shell with overlapping plates on its upper side.

Why is it endangered?

The Hawksbill sea turtle is mostly endangered due to human impact. Their eggs are constantly eaten around the world and they're frequently killed for their beautiful shells and flesh. They are also occasionally accidentally caught in fish nets.

What is being done to protect the turtles?

in order to try to protect this endangered species, we are becoming more aware of sea turtle nesting areas. We can make sure that we aren't fishing in a common sea turtle region and stop killing for their shell and flesh before they come extinct.
