The Faubion Lion Pride Press

Week of March 20, 2023

Dear Faubion Family,

We hope that you enjoy this week's edition of The Faubion Lion Pride Press. In this edition, we highlight one of our Faubion scholars, one of our teachers, highlight an opportunity to earn high school credit, and share about our Faubion Family Fun Night.

Aristotle once said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." At Faubion Middle School, we make excellence a habit, and we are kind. Parents, thank you for partnering with us to help your children develop quality habits so they can become leaders of our future.

Go Lions!

- Mr. Boom

Student Spotlight - Tara Schroeder!

This week we would like to feature on of our outstanding 8th grade scholars, Tara Schroeder!

Recently, Tara promoted to Senior Master/Sgt with Civil Air Patrol. Their color guard team - which she has led for over a year - is ranked #1 in Texas. Tara competed with a team of five cadets from Thunderbird Composite Squadron for Civil Air Patrol National Cadet competition. Together they won five events which made them the Texas Region Wing Competition champions. Their team will now move on to compete against the best teams from Oklahoma, Arizona, Louisiana, and Arkansas in the Southwest Region Cadet Competition with the hope of winning a spot to compete at Nationals.

Tara is very involved in activities at Faubion - choir, academic UIL, musical theatre, and athletics to name a few. You would be hard-pressed to find a Faubion student more involved. We are so grateful for Tara's dedication to our school - including her friendly and outgoing spirit - and to all of our military families! Pictured is Tara in an Air Force refueling tanker, watching the nuclear bomber refuel.

Leading the work for the state of Texas

Señora Maricarmen Corvison has been selected to be part of the Region 10 Texas Language Leader’s cohort! This group consists of a selected group of state-wide LOTE teachers that want to grow into future leaders in World Language education in Texas. These leaders will become experts and learn in-depth correlations between the LOTE TEKS and T-TESS, learn how to influence change and how to deliver effective professional learning. They will also carry out a leadership project that adds value to World Language teaching and learning.

Mrs. Corvison will be adding great value to the World Language programs across the state of Texas and impact many educators and students in our common endeavor to make Texas more multilingual. Congratulations to our Faubion Family for having one of the few selected representatives of excellence in LOTE to World Language educators in the state of Texas and the nation! We could not be prouder to have Sra. Corvison on our team.

Read-In Day

Teaching requires careful consideration for high academic expectations, sound routines, timely grading and feedback, and strong relationships. Our English-Language Arts teams have shown time and again that they put in the extra effort required to demonstrate mastery in their work. This little finishing touch that you see in Mrs. Boysen's room during Read-In Day in one such example. Kudos to all of our teachers for your dedicated work.

Clubs and Organizations

We are focused on making sure that all students are an active member in at least one club/organization in order to become more engrained in our school community and also help with academic performance.

We have several well established clubs and organizations on campus, including Academic UIL, Student Council, Youth and Government, the Kindness Club, and more. All clubs are student-led and guided by a faculty sponsor. Please follow this LINK for a listing of our clubs.

Cell Phone Policy

At your convenience, please listen to the Simon Sinek video about the harmful effects of cell phones and the importance of interpersonal communication. We do not allow cell phones, ear buds, or smart watches to be out during classroom periods. We also do not allow cell phones in restrooms. Please help us reinforce this expectation, as we want to engage your child in high-quality instruction from bell-to-bell in every class, every day.

Faubion Middle School Model of Learning

McKinney ISD provides a district-wide standard, called the Model of Instruction, which guides teacher teams in planning, instruction, and classroom culture. With input from our extended leadership team, we created a standard for scholarly behavior in every classroom. Our teachers use the Model of Learning, guiding students on how to behave and think as a scholar. This model reinforces the characteristics of a McKinney ISD graduate.
