Girl Talk News
GIRL TALK THIS WEEK!!!
Hello everybody!! We are so excited to get started with another year of Girl Talk! Right now we have 56 girls signed up and we have 10 teen mentors who will be co-leading the small groups every week at our meetings. It is going to be a great year!! At our first meeting, we played Human Bingo and got to know a little bit about our teen mentors. At our meeting this week, we will be learning about being authentic and will be making a poster with ideas of how we can stop bullying. The girls will be making a "pinky promise" by painting their pinky nail blue as a sign of being against bullying. Our meetings are the first and third Thursdays of the month, right after school until 3:30. The coming meeting dates are: THIS WEEK - October 20th, November 3rd and 17th and December 1st and 15th. THANK YOU to the moms who have offered to send in scrapbook paper, glue, cardstock and stickers!!
NOVEMBER FUN NIGHT!!!!
Our first Fun Night is coming up quick! Your daughter should have brought home a flyer with the details...but just in case you haven't seen it... ;) Fun Nights are a great time for moms to come with their daughters in Girl Talk to make memories together and have a good time together! Our first activity is going to be a game night and it will be a lot of fun! It is also a great night for you to come and learn more about Girl Talk, meet myself and the other leaders and to hear about some of the things we will be doing this year! I hope you can all come and I look forward to meeting you!! PLEASE RSVP through Facebook, email or text (if you can/cannot come) so I know how many to plan for. There is no cost for our Fun Night, but we do invite you to bring a snack to share if you would like to! Fun Night is Wednesday, November 2nd. 6:30-8:00 in the Athletic Meeting Room at the high school. Park in the lot between the high school and the bus lot (across from the new tennis courts) and enter through Door #12! Let me know if you have any questions about where this is.
We will be adopting a family through the school for Christmas! Because we have so many girls, we will be able to divide up the items needed...from canned food items to clothing and toy items. You are never required to purchase anything for our service projects! We choose our projects so that we can have a way for EVERYONE to participate, so everyone gets to help and feels important as they do something to help someone else! If you would prefer to just give a $10 donation toward the community service projects we will be doing this year, we can do the "leg work" for you and get what is needed for the different projects we will be doing! Contact me if you have any questions!!
First meeting this year, playing Human Bingo...Mr. Gilbert even got to participate when he was passing through!
Girl Talk has some great resources for parents as you help your daughter navigate the drama-filled middle school years. Go to the Girl Talk website and go to "Girl Talk Resources", then to "Parent and Teacher Resources" for some book and website recommendations! The Girl Talk founder has also written a book called "The Drama Years". Check it out!! www.mygirltalk.org
