Watch D.O.G.S. - Calling all Dads and Father Figures!
Mark your calendars for our Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Kick-off night on Tuesday, September 20th @ 6:30pm.
Join us as we kick-off the Watch D.O.G.S. for 2016-2017. Bring your kids for pizza, drinks, and cookies; followed by games in the cafeteria with Coach Barbour. For the dads, you'll learn a bit about this amazing program, hear our goals for the year and be able to sign up for your preferred date to volunteer at the school.
We also have some great door prizes this year, such as Watch D.O.G.S. swag and other donated items.
Please see our Watch D.O.G.S. page on CarlislePTA.org for more info!
Walk 'n Roll Wednesdays
Walk and Roll Wednesdays Return Starting Next Week 9/14/16!
The purpose of Walk and Roll Wednesdays is to encourage families to walk or ride bikes to school.
- We encourage you to find safe routes to school and to use this as an opportunity to teach your children about community safety.
- We encourage you to decrease the environmental impact of so many cars driving to school each day. This also helps to lessen the congestion in the car pool drop off line.
- We encourage students to get a little early morning exercise to stimulate brain oxygenation and blood flow for the day.
- We encourage you to make this a healthy habit on more than just Wednesdays.
Because some students have no choice but to come to school by car or bus, we offer a Wednesday morning Coyote walk before school. Starting at 7:10 am, students can join Miss Grace and other school staff at the front entryway. A group leaves for a lap to the bridge and back about every 5 minutes. All students are welcome to attend. This year, we invite parents to join us too. We can always use some extra eyes on the slower walkers at the back of the group. So lace up your sneakers and come walk with us.
Please discuss some basic Walk and Roll safety rules with your child:
- Bike riders should wear helmets and lock their bikes on a bike rack.
- Bike riders should obey all traffic rules.
- Students who eat breakfast in the cafeteria must go in to breakfast first. They can join the group for a lap if there is enough time
- Walkers at school must listen to directions from adults.
- We walk SINGLE FILE along the carpool lane.
- We walk at all times (please no running).
- We will have positive behavior and polite words at all times.
- We will wait calmly and patiently near the entrance for the next lap, even if no adult is present.
Friendly Reminders
Phone Messages
Each staff member has a voice mailbox and email. They will make every effort to check their messages throughout the day, but often times, they are unable to do so until their planning time or at the end of the day because they are away from their desk working with students. Consequently, it is necessary to send a note with your child explaining any transportation changes. Messages to the teacher are delivered only in the event of an emergency. Before leaving home for the day, teach your child to double-check for important notes to the teacher, homework, lunch, library books, etc., before they leave home. If you must deliver any of these items, please write your child’s name and teacher’s name on the forgotten item and leave in the office. Office staff will place it in the appropriate grade level box located in the main office. Visitors may not interrupt student instructional time to drop off these items. After dismissal, if you child has forgotten an item (book, jacket, homework assignment, etc.) building access is available until 3:30 p.m. For the safety and security of PASAR students, only parents picking up PASAR students will be admitted after 3:30 p.m.

Key Communicators
Personal contact is one of the most effective communication methods when building support for our schools and district. With this in mind, we need ONE MORE parents to represent Carlisle Elementary as members of the 2016-2017 Plano Independent School District Key Communicators group.
What Do Key Communicators Do?
- Attend three evening meetings with the superintendent or other key staff to learn about programs, issues, initiatives and accomplishments. This year’s dates are: Tuesday, October 11; Thursday, February 2; and the final date is Tuesday, April 11.
- Share information from the meetings with other parents and school staff.
- Communicate district news and initiatives, which will vary from year to year, but could involve election information, Education Foundation programs, legislative issues and district planning.
- Receive occasional mailings from the district.
- Facilitate balanced and factual communications.
If you are interested in representing Carlisle Elementary as a Key Communicator, please email jana.sandall@pisd.edu or call 469-752-0611.
Counselor Corner
Nurses' News
Donations Appreciated
The nurse would love to replenish her extra clothing supply. Currently needed are shorts and pants in sizes 4-12. Elastic waists are the best and unisex colors are even better. Gently used socks and underwear – both boys and girls – is also needed.
Students in grades K-2 should have an extra set of clothes in their backpack or locker.
Please wash and return any clothing that is loaned to your child.
Farm-O-Ree
September 11 Recruitment for Youth Organizations
In an effort to support low-cost family activities or programs, the district is participating in distributing information about a “Farm-o-ree” event – recruitment for Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts Circle Ten Council and the YMCA – to be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, at the Heritage Farmstead Museum, 1900 W. 15th Street in Plano.
