Old Town Star Staff News

December 14th through January 8th

Our ROCK STAR of the WEEK is...

Name: Shelby Rieger

Current Gig: 4th Grade Teacher

Personal Life: I am an only child born and raised in the greater Austin area. I was a student in RRISD, and graduated from Round Rock High School. After graduation I attended Texas A&M University and am a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2015, WHOOP! I am so happy to be returning home to Round Rock, and better yet have the opportunity to teach in the very district that helped educate me! I am also now married to my high school sweetheart!
One word to describe yourself and why: I would describe myself as personable, because I really like to take time to get to know people, and invest in their lives.

Most interesting job: In high school I worked at My Party Palace, a place that hosts little girls' birthday parties. This was a very interesting job as I loved to watch all the different personalities of the girls, and how they interacted. I also loved having the opportunity to take part in making each of them feel like a princess.

Favorite hobbies away from school: My favorite hobbies include cooking and traveling. I love going onto Pinterest and trying out new recipes, and also experimenting with some recipes of my own. I also love to travel with my friends and family, and experiencing and learning from the other cultures that I visit.

Favorite song: My favorite song is "Love You Like That" by Ben Rector. This is my favorite song as it will be my fiance and I's first dance song in October.

If I wasn't at Old Town, I'd..: If I wasn't at Old Town, I'd be a wedding planner. I once interned for a wedding planner and found it to be a lot of fun. Now since planning my own wedding I feel like I would really enjoy helping other brides through the process.

This Week's Reminders...

  • If you sponsor an after school club, be sure you stay with the students until the last student has been picked up by a parent.
  • Be sure to let all of the Office Team know if you have a special class event coming up on your calendar. It is imperative that they are ready to sign in your parents on the day of the event!
  • The orange communication system seems to be going really well, however, there have been a number of folders returned with notes still in them! Be sure all students are given the information they need for appropriate dismissal.

We were part of the 191,000 events around the world! Congratulations Star Texan Family!!!

From Debbie Miller's Teaching with Intention...

From all the ways we put our thinking and theirs on display to what we say and do to foster and find significance in student thinking, we’re letting kids in on who we are, what we expect from them (and ourselves), and what we believe about teaching and learning.

Super Star Shout Outs!

GINORMOUS THANK YOU and to each of you for helping your students actively participate in the Hour of Code this week! What a GINORMOUS endeavor for our school to have been a part of this week. We encourage you to keep on coding!!!
