Food Shortage During the Civil War
By: Zach Oberg
Confederacy's Food Shortage
In the south there are some problems with being able to get food. People are starving and because of this food prices are skyrocketing and riots are occurring at food stores and bakeries.
People were starving and it was hard to find food.
Because it was hard to find food, people rioted at bakeries or other food stores.
This happened mainly because farms and food sources in the south were taken over by the north.
Why Did This Food Shortage Occur?
This event is occurring because of three things: the Union occupation of food-growing areas, drain of manpower into the army, and the loss of slaves to work in the fields.
