If you are deaf and go to a mainstream school, your going to have more trouble making a sports team than a hearing person.You may have more trouble because you are deaf surrounded by hearing people. There is going to be a communication issue.
The Affect
Being deaf and playing sports in middle school or a community league or even the pros, is very difficult because you are the "diffrent" one. The stories of these athletes are very inspiring to deaf and even hearing people.
Derrick Coleman
Derrick Coleman was born in Los Angeles on October 18 1990 and was diagnosed with a serious genetic hearing disorder when he was three. He was often bullied because of him being diffrent. He was the first ever deaf person to play on offense and win a super bowl.
Tamika Catchings
Play womans basketball and is on the USA olyimpic team. Growing up was in a mainstream school. Catchings was born with a hearing loss, but that obviously didn’t deter her from chasing her basketball dreams. As a young child, she wore hearing aids, and endured teasing. The teasing was so bad that she ditched the hearing aids so she could look like everyone else
