Monday Message
From the desk of Dr. Harrell
October 21, 2019
Good Afternoon-
I hope each one of you had a great week last week. One that was restful to a degree, one that allowed you to catch up on items you have not had time to get to and maybe even take a little trip if it fit into your schedule. As we return today, the beginning of the second quarter, we have 80 days in this quarter (Now 79) to continue the magical work that you have started this year and continue with the lasting impression.
We all having lasting impressions of teachers from the past and great memories spent with classmates. This past Saturday Mr. Escamilla and I had the opportunity to open Morales Junior High, the former high school to the class of 1969. As they walked the campus they wanted to see the gym, band hall, cafeteria, library, and classrooms. They meandered through the hallways and many would tell ‘Remember When’ stories. All the stories shared were filled with laughter at the antic one or a group of students pulled off. They recalled marching at the honey bowl, football, and basketball games and UIL plays performed in the cafeteria. Several talked of elementary school shenanigans such as throwing pickle slices up to the ceiling so they would stick only to watch them fall on someone. The uniting force through most of the stories as I listened were the adults, the teachers, the coaches, the directors, counselors, and principals that took the time and made a significant impact on their lives, that made them stronger, to build that drive within and nurtured that innate desire to achieve. Theses stories weren’t from one year or one semester but compiled over time. We never know when that lasting impression is made we just know it happens. It could happen in the next 79 days. Let’s make an impression.
Education and training are the keys to the future. A key can be turned in two directions. Turn it one way and you lock resources away; turn it the other way and you realize resources and give people back to themselves. ~ Sir Ken Robinson
Thanks for all you do!
