SOAR Newsletter

The End of the Year!

We have had such a great time this year with all of your children! It's almost sad to see summer come.....Nah! We'll see you all next year! That is ONE of the best things about teaching SOAR! We get to have most of our sweet kiddos back year after year! Next year will bring some changes that we are excited to share with you in this FINAL newsletter of the 2015-2016 school year.

All K-4 students will attend Lyon for SOAR with Ms. Hicks and all 5-6 students will attend the Middle school for SOAR with Ms. Thayer. It's going to be hard for both of us to say goodbye to the kids we won't get to work with anymore, but we're excited about the change. We know the 5th graders will enjoy being at the Middle School, and it will be great for the younger kids to have smaller class sizes, so it will be a win-win for all!

We are VERY excited to announce that next year, students will be bussed to and from their home school for SOAR (McCulloch, Price, and Schofield only. Sweeny and Lyon will still walk to us). This should be more convenient in SO many ways. We are so thankful to be able to have this service next year! It should make things much more convenient and easy. If your child rides the bus or attends Tiger Stripes, they will do so on their SOAR days now as well. We will have detailed information for you at the beginning of the year as to how this will work, but that should take one worry off your plates for the summer knowing you won't have to deal with it next year!

Unit of Study

As of right now, we have NO idea what exactly we will be studying next year. Each grade may be doing a separate topic (or topics), or we may do all the same thing. We just don't know at this point, although we have many ideas swirling around in our head. We do know that it will be exciting, fun, and lots of hard work (as usual). We can't wait for next year!

Parent Survey

Thank you all for taking the parent survey last week. We really appreciate you taking the time to provide us with this very useful feedback. We would like to share this data with you. This data supports our areas of celebration on what is working, as well as areas we can work towards improvement. We have some plans in the works to respond the the concerns regarding the process of testing potential future gifted students and will share more of our plans in the fall.
