First Week of School
Cambrian School District, August 18, 2020
Dear Cambrian Families,
Cambrian staff is looking forward to starting the school year and meeting your child on the first day of school this Wednesday, August 19th. Last March when schools nationwide entered shelter-in-place, we could not have imagined our students would begin the 2020-21 school year in distance learning. However, Cambrian staff is most certainly excited to start and welcome your child to the new school year.
This school year will be like none other we have experienced, but with patience, perseverance and collaboration, we will get it done together. As Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it's done.”
Cambrian teachers and staff the past week have spent time in professional development and training to prepare for distance learning. Much was learned and much was shared as teachers creatively collaborated. We also learned how to navigate technology issues or glitches that possibly come up.
On Wednesday morning we expect there will be technology glitches and we will adjust, problem solve, and keep moving forward. We ask families to practice getting younger children logged on and encourage older children to do a dry run. Technology help line is set up for the first day of school for those who may need assistance logging on (see below). We ask for your patience Wednesday morning when we go live. We stand by ready to assist you to make this year start as smoothly as possible.
Need help getting your child logged in on the first day?
If you have challenges getting your child logged in online and need assistance, you can reach out to our Technology Help Line (http://bit.ly/39PmbSj). We will have staff call individuals back in the order that they are received to help get your child get logged on the first day of school.
PG&E Power Outages
What to do before the power goes out:
Make sure phones, hotspots and Chromebooks are fully charged.
Prepare an emergency supply kit with flashlights, first aid supplies, food, water and cash.
Create a safety plan for all members of your family, including pets- Visit the PG&E Safety Action Center at safetyactioncenter.pge.com for tips on how to build an emergency plan.
What to do after the power goes off:
Unplug or turn off appliances, equipment and electronics to avoid damage caused by surges when the power is restored.
Leave a single lamp on to alert you when the power returns. Then, turn your appliances on, one at a time.
Be sure to use generators, camp stoves or charcoal grills outdoors only. Do not use a gas stove for heat.
For food safety tips, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has a detailed list at their site: Food Safety During A Power Outage
For the latest information regarding power outages in your area, go to the PG&E Outage Map by clicking here.
Call the attendance line if your internet is down due to a power outage
If you do not have internet access during the week due to the power outages, please call the attendance line at your child’s school and let them know.
