HIGHLIGHTS:

• CONGRATULATIONS to the 8th grade field hockey team for winning the Central Bucks postseason tournament championship by defeating Holicong in a very well-played 1-0 game at CB South’s stadium on Wednesday!
• CONGRATULATIONS to the Varsity tennis teams who traveled to East and West to participate in the Championship matches earlier this week. It was a chilly, windy day, but the Tigers fought and held their own against tough opponents from across the district. A special shout out to 8th grader Mitchell R. who made it to the 2nd day of CHAMPS and played in the semi-final. It was a great day to end the tennis season! Tamanend is very proud of you! Great job!

INFORMATION:

• All 7th and 8th Grade girls interested in playing basketball for Tamanend this year must have their registration on Family ID completed by the end of the day on Wednesday, November 11th. On Thursday the 12th, information that pertains to tryouts and the season will be distributed. That information will only be sent to those who are registered in Family ID. Tryouts will be held from 2:45-4:30 on Monday, November 16th through Wednesday, November 18th.

• REMINDER: Winter sports--GIRLS BASKETBALL, WRESTLING--will begin in mid-November. (Boys Basketball will begin in January.) Details about the upcoming winter season will be provided over the next few weeks. If you are interested in participating, there are several specific items (PIAA physical, Family ID, and concussion testing) that need to be completed prior to the start of the Winter sports season. Those items are outlined and explained on the Tamanend Athletics web page which can be found HERE. Family ID opened for registration on October 25th.
• Students interested in wrestling are invited to watch the team’s 2020-2021 Promotional Video
• REMINDER: Please keep in mind that students must go home at the end of the school day. It is the responsibility of the student-athlete and parent/guardian to coordinate transportation back to school on days of practices/games, as well as for away games.
• REMINDER: Attendance at any event is subject to appropriate behavior and adherence to CBSD athletic and districtwide health and safety plans. Anyone who refuses to adhere to guidelines will be asked to leave campus.

• There will be a voluntary open workout held on Wednesday, November 11th from 6:00pm-7:30pm at CB South Main Gym for any 9th grade athlete interested in participating in boys basketball. Student-athletes must be registered on Family ID prior to participating in any voluntary workouts and complete the CBSD COVID-19 screening survey by 12:00pm the day of the workout in order to be eligible to attend the voluntary workout. The Boomerang Youth Recognition Award is a district wide program which recognizes and honors youth in our community for exemplifying and living by the chosen asset for each month of the school year.

For the month of October, the asset was safety—recognizing a young person who “feels safe at home, at school and in the neighborhood.” We had 10 nominations. Now we would like to highlight our building winner, 7th Grade student, Hannah Kauffman.

Hannah is described by her teachers as someone who is diligent, someone who is happy to make lemonade out of lemons, and someone who is a model for other students. The safety restrictions due to COVID-19 have caused everyone to look at safety differently, but the following story about Hannah shows how she has shined during this difficult time. For band class, all students who play a woodwind or brass instruments need to "build" instrument specific PPE to play in class. In the same way that we are all wearing masks, students have been tasked with making "masks" for their instruments. Hannah came in with hers and not only was it constructed impeccably well, but she also took time to decorate and personalize it. When she showed the class her flute face shield and flute key jacket, they had various interests of hers that made the PPE truly "her own." Other students noticed and started to add decorate and personalize their PPE’s too. Not only is Hannah keeping everyone safe, but she showed her peers how being safe can be a super cool thing to do.

On Wednesday, November 11th we will hold our Veterans Day Assembly virtually. We are looking forward to honoring veterans in our community, in our school, and in our families!

The Tamanend Middle School yearbook advisors opened a website to upload 9th Grade baby pictures for the 2020-2021 yearbook. We are inviting you to include a photo memento in your child’s yearbook that he or she will have as a special reminder in their last year at Tamanend. Submitting your child’s baby picture is a great way to honor your child in the yearbook at this special time in his or her life. The cost is $5. It’s a great time to order your child’s 2020-2021 Tamanend Yearbook! If you order online prior to January 31, 2021 the cost of the full-color, hardback yearbook is on sale for $35 (plus tax). This is also the deadline if you’d like to add any additional personalization to your child’s yearbook. The price of the yearbook will increase to $37.50 from February 1st-March 31st, and finally to $40 for any yearbooks ordered up until April 30th. Tamanend Student Picture Days are scheduled for Tuesday, December 8th (for Hybrid 1 students) and Friday, December 11th (for Hybrid 2 students). Parents/guardians of 100% online students can call C&C Studios at 215-345-1851 or email candcphotostudios@verizon.net to schedule their appointment. Once your appointment has been made, we will email you the paperwork (Picture Order Form and Covid-19 Consent Form) needed to be filled out brought in at the time of your appointment. Please note that parent(s)/guardian(s) of Hybrid students may also make an appointment to have their child's picture taken at the studio if they don't wish to wait until the in-person dates in December.

Should you wish to make an appointment for any other children that may attend high school or elementary school please feel free to do so. All scheduled appointments will be given ample time to provide the utmost customer service and the time allotted will be based on the number of students per family being photographed.

Join us for the Tamanend Parent Book Club. This year, we will be reading It's Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens (2015) by Danah Boyd. The book describes how social media impacts teenagers and how they connect with the world around them. This book club will follow a "no-pressure" format in which the facilitator will present a summary of the chapter and open the floor for discussion. We will share resources and ideas with the goal of helping the entire Tamanend parent community navigate the challenges and joys of raising adolescents. Do you want to improve your speaking and analysis skills? Do you like exploring legal issues of everyday events? Or, just want to spend some time hanging out with Mr. Sterner and Mr. Heisey? We are pleased to offer the Mock Trial Club at Tamamend for any interested 9th graders. It’s a great way to learn about the legal profession and debate your way through an actual case as either a lawyer or a witness, as well as build your skills for future participation and competition at CB South. While we can’t currently run Tamanend Today, our live weekly TV show, we are still seeking interested students who enjoy broadcast media and video production. We have some ideas for production until we can go live again, and we would like your ideas for when we can go live. A reminder that students should check their Outlook email daily for important reminders and information from teachers. This is another great way to stay connected.

Please help us to control the flow of traffic for car riders during drop-off and pick-up. If possible, please consider entering the Tamanend parking lot from the Kelly Road side of the property. If you are coming from Bristol Road, please drive past the school and make a safe u-turn farther down Stuckert Road. Then, form a single-file line on the shoulder so that you will be making a right turn into the parking lot. Trying to make a left turn can back up traffic and can delay buses and dismissal. Although the line may look long, everyone clears out safely by 1:25pm. Thanks for your help!

This can be an overwhelming challenge in today’s difficult world. Over the past 2 years, school counselors from all building levels in CBSD have developed a K-12 Guidance Plan. Brainstorming, stake-holder involvement, creative planning, goal setting and implementation continue to be part of this. The Plan includes what is currently part of our academic, social/emotional guidance curriculum and in this evolving process we will try to meet the variety of needs of our students and school community. We invite you to share in our continued learning on how to inspire passion and purpose. Articles, videos, and documents will be shared in your school newsletter on a regular basis. The current immunization requirements for the 2020-2021 school year are as follows:

Children in kindergarten through 12th grade are required to have the following vaccines:

· 4 doses DtaP – diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (one dose must be on or after the 4th birthday)

· 4 doses Polio (one dose must be on or after the 4th birthday)

· 2 doses MMR – measles, mumps, rubella

· 3 doses Hepatitis B

· 2 doses Varicella (chicken pox)

Children entering 7th grade are also required to have:

· 1 dose Meningococcal Conjugate (meningitis)

· 1 dose Tdap – tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis
