Getting Started with Dreambox Webinar
This about 30 minutes and well work your time so you are able to get the most out of this program.
How does Dreambox work?
- Dreambox begins students in a lesson group. There are NO pretest or benchmark tests.
- Data is gathered and Dreambox opens up the next lesson the student needs.
- Student data helps create an adaptive learning pathway for each student. This means, it reacts to the student and meets them instructionally where they are.
- DreamBox DOES NOT give students multiple choices as answer options. The program looks at what the student is doing not just looking for accuracy.
- Data is collected from student response time, types of errors, strategies used in solving, and accuracy.
- You can assign specific TEKs. This is not a common core progam.
Example of student data and adaptive lessons for each student
Learning Pathways
Students DO NOT use paper and pencil to solve the problems. It is VITAL students use the on screen manipulatives. This causes them to think and use the tools. Dreambox gathers data from the errors, the number of hints needed, and how much time is spent completing the lesson.
Recommended Time
The goal is for student to complete lessons. Lesson completion ensures growth. Teachers must monitor this in the Teacher Dashboard under reports. Consider making Dreambox 2 rotations during Guided Math so they can work for 20 minutes. During our trial period students should not work at home. The data needs to come from the students not students getting help from a parent or sibling.
Student Reports
You can use the data collected in Dreambox to create math groups and see where a student needs reteaching. It is important to look for frequent "paused lesson" circle and the "orange triangle". This alerts the teacher that a student needs help from you to progress.
Dreambox supports learners "during the lessons"
- There are written and oral directions for students. If a student needs the directions again the speaker button will repeat the directions.
- The help button and ? are another student support. Tips are given for solving the problem. The tips and help button are examples of how Dreambox scaffolds and reteaches based on how many times the student requests help.
- The progress bar helps the student see how much they have completed in the lesson.
- When students are ready for Dreambox to check the work, they click the green check mark. The program provides tips and reteaching if the answer is incorrect.
Fourth Grade Students
Will use Chromebooks. The link needs to be saved as a Bookmark or Favorite.
Second and Third Grade Students
Will use iPads.
Dreambox App
The DreamBox App is in the Self Serve store ready to download to iPads.
Learning Breaks
Teachers you will LOVE this!!!
For the K-2 student "Learning breaks" are in "My House" and the "Arcade. For grades 3 and up the learning break are in "Collections" and "Personalizations".
You can put restrictions on this so they don't just play in the learning break!
