Fall 2020- Welcome Riders!
How Does Career Related Learning Happen at Roosevelt?
At Roosevelt, we have a variety of programs and supports in place for students to explore careers. This includes bringing in career speakers, attending career and resume building workshops, participating in mock interviews, working alongside industry professionals in Career Technical Education (CTE) through job shadows and internships, and heading out to visit a workplace via "Career Days." In addition, Roosevelt offers multiple state-approved CTE programs of study that allows students to experience hands-on learning and acquire skills that are transferrable to a multitude of future career pathways. These CTE programs include Construction Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Media Studies/ Mass Communication, and Multimedia/ Theatre Arts Production.
It’s important to start exploring careers now so students can think about what they might eventually like to do and understand the pathways to get there. The Oregon Department of Education has added emphasis on Career Related Learning: it's a graduation requirement. By the end of Senior year all students will need to participate in two Career Related Learning Experiences (“CRLE” for short–reflect on them) build a resume, and write a “My Plan Essay” (during Junior or Senior English class). NOTE: these requirements has been waived for the Class of 2021 due to Distance Learning.
Planning for Post High School
We can help you feel more confident about finding post-secondary options and exploring possible careers, internships, colleges, apprenticeships, workforce training programs and/or military opportunities. This is a great PPS resource!

Tips for writing a high school resumeMeet Your Career Coordinator
I am also the Head Cross Country Coach and Assist. Track Coach at RHS. In my free time, I enjoy being outside running, biking, and backpacking in the mountains. I am half Filipinx and spent the first 12 years of my life in the Philippines. I love coming from two backgrounds, and especially love my Filipinx family whom I visit regularly. I can speak Tagalog and Hiligaynon(Illongo) so if you do too, I would love for you to reach out to me! I look forward to exploring the different ways we can connect this year and I promise to make career learning as fun and engaging during distance learning.

Meet Your YTP Career & Transition Coordinator
Hello RHS Community!
My name is Mrs. Kia Swain. During the school day, I am your Youth Transition Program (YTP) career & transition coordinator. This is my fourth year in this position. I support the special education services department at RHS. The purpose of the YTP program is to prepare students with varying disabilities for employment or other career related postsecondary education or training, through the provision of a comprehensive array of individualized pre-employment activities and supports.
When I am not working with all the wonderful students and staff at Roosevelt, I am a busy football coach's wife of 22 years , mother of 3 beautiful children (22, 19, 13), a daughter that is a care provider of her mother and a friend that enjoys hanging out with her best girlfriends cooking and talking about life. Two of my children graduated from RHS (2016, 2020). Although, I've been working in my current capacity the last few years, I have been apart of the Roosevelt community since 2008. I love our culturally diverse community! Additionally, I find it a real pleasure collaborating with the great staff of RHS! It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to be apart of a school that cares so deeply for its students. Most important, I am looking forward to a special 2020-2021 school year. I will be collaborating with Ms. Raisa Puchalski to assist all RHS students with career/goal planning. I look forward to connecting with you.
