Information and Updates
Dear Families,
We hope that you are enjoying this time of year and the excitement that the fall season brings with autumn activities and holidays just around the corner.
December planning amounts will soon be available, and with that in mind, we wanted to be sure that you are aware of some ordering deadlines for product requests.
Please be sure to enter all requests for subscriptions that are 6-months or greater in length by November 19th. After that date, only subscriptions up to 3-months in length may be requested at a time through the end of the school year. Many vendors only offer 6+ month subscriptions to charter school students, so we would encourage you to plan ahead and get your order requests entered early.
The Enrichment Ordering System will be down during the Thanksgiving and Winter holiday breaks this year, which will allow our teachers and school staff to enjoy the time with their families. Please plan accordingly and enter your product and service order requests around those holiday breaks.
As always, we appreciate your partnership with our school and look forward to working with you throughout the remainder of the school year.
2020 -2021 Budget Overview For Parents
Cabrillo Point Academy Turkey Trot
Turkey Trot:
Choose a day between November 10th - November 17th to do the Turkey Trot with your student. The Turkey Trot can be done with just the student or as a family. The Turkey Trot can be done inside or outside your house.
Dress your student or family up in your most creative turkey attire. (Example is shown below and Pinterest has a lot of ideas as well)
Begin your Trot, Walk, Run, Bike, Scooter, or Turkey Dance for as long as your student/family wants. (Write down how many minutes your Turkey "Trot" lasted.)
Fill out this Turkey Trot Survey. The survey will have you tell us how many minutes your Turkey Trot lasted. It will also have you upload a picture of your student or family in their turkey attire. Show off your school spirit by dressing up and maybe win a prize!
We will be putting all the pictures together in a Turkey Trot slideshow. If you would like to have your picture presented for other families and teachers to see, please fill out the waiver linked in the survey.
We will be keeping a tally of minutes that Teachers and Families are logging during the week. We will announce the winner of the Turkey Trot minutes on November 18th.
Also, we are having a competition of who had the Most Creative Turkey Attire. Although it is completely optional to dress up, there will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place gift card prize for the most creative turkey attire.
If you have any questions, please email gina.garland@cabrillopointacademy.org.
We can't wait to see all the pictures of the Teachers and Families doing the Turkey Trot! Have fun!

Social Anxiety Safety Behaviors Worksheet - In social situations, safety behaviors are subtle actions people take to avoid anxiety. For example, someone who is anxious about socializing at a party might focus on their phone to discourage others from approaching. Although safety behaviors provide temporary relief, they make anxiety worse in the long-run. The Social Anxiety Safety Behaviors worksheet teaches the basics of avoidance, and how safety behaviors fill the same role.
Worry Exploration Questions - When people worry, they tend to imagine the worst thing that could possibly happen. In reality, these worries may never come true. What could happen isn’t the same as what will happen. In the Worry Exploration Questions worksheet, students are asked to consider their worry versus reality.
Study tips for Anxiety - Study skills help to reduce test anxiety, improve focus, and increase motivation to do well on tests. Good study habits are important for all students, but they are particularly beneficial for those with test anxiety.
Zoom-Out Cards - Help your child shift perspective with these fun facts.

Homeschooling Advice
Emotional Intelligence: What it is and why it matters
“What’s wrong, honey?”
My eleven-year-old is sitting on the couch, cuddling the puppy, and staring into space. This isn’t completely abnormal for her, as she struggles with a variety of challenges, including anxiety, and the last few months have been very tough for her mental health.
“I’m not really sure,” she replies. “I just feel sad. I needed to take a break and cuddle Bella for a little bit.”
Daniel Goleman, author of the bestselling book Emotional Intelligence, writes that emotional intelligence (EQ) is more important than intelligence (IQ).
He makes the point that when people have a strong grasp of their social and emotional skills — resiliency, self-awareness, empathy, regulation, and more — they’re better able to cope with life and learn what they need to learn. I believe that it’s crucial that we teach our kids these skills from the time they’re very young.
