Welcome Back!

I am excited and grateful to be starting my third year as Director of Athletics and Extra Curricular Activities here in Lower Moreland Township School District. The last two years have really given me an opportunity to be exposed to this exceptional school district and all of the tremendous athletes, staff, students, and parents. Please remember to look at lmtsdathletics.com for all of the up to date information in regards to schedules, notifies you when games are changed, and keeps you in the loop with how our sports teams are doing. Please follow the directions below to sign up and get updates.

We have also moved to FamilyID full time this fall, which has proven to be extremely beneficial to our athletic department and coaches. Lower Moreland To Join Suburban One League

In the Fall of 2020, Lower Moreland HS Athletics will be moving from the Bicentennial Athletic League, to the Suburban One League. This move will help elevate our athletic programs to the standards that are set forth in academics, music, & the arts within the district. Another reason for this move was to help increase opportunities for our student athletes. By joining the SOL, we will be able to compete with schools who have full roster sizes, which will help up play full Varsity & JV schedules. Moving to the SOL will also re-establish local rivalries with local public schools such as Springfield, Upper Moreland & New Hope Solebury. The in depth website the SOL has also will allow our student athletes to be recognized for their amazing accomplishments. This move will help us become members of one of the most historic and respected leagues in the state. The future is looking bright for our athletic programs at Lower Moreland.

Fall Sports Are Underway

Football - Season Preview

The football team lost 13 seniors from a year ago, and need young fresh faces to fill the void left by players such as Coleman Peppleman, Forrest Keys, Nick Derderian, & Jordan Zoubroulis. Rising Jr. Sal Pennecale won the QB competition in the spring, and has shown tremendous progress taking snaps in pre-season and early in the year.

The team has 6 seniors on the team this year, including 4 year players Pat Whittle and Christian Long. The team also welcomes back Joe Kelly, and looks for John Sheridan to fill in the void as playmaker.

The team started camp earlier this year then ever before, beginning on August 5th. The team has put in a lot of effort and time into improving on a daily basis, and Coach Beck says that the program is heading in the right direction. With a more regimented off season conditioning and lifting program this year, the team is in better shape heading into the season. There is also a young nucleus of athletes that are on the rise to help continue to build the program.

The team opened up with a tough loss to Academy of Palumbo, but looks to bounce back in their home opener Friday 8/30. The game will start at Noon at Mark V. Mayson Stadium.

Other Key Games:

9/13 7 PM vs. Jenkintown

10/12 2:30 PM vs. George School Homecoming

10/18 7 PM vs. New Hope Solebury @ Upper Moreland

10/25 7 PM vs. Bristol Senior Night

Girls Tennis - Season Preview

The girls are looking strong as they begin the 2019 season. We only graduated one senior (Eliabeth Berzin - 4 time district champion, state silver medalist in team & doubles, and team captain for 2 years) and having a few promising freshman vying to play varsity, our season looks promising. We have started the season with great wins against all AAA opponents, beating Council Rock North, Abington and C.B. East.

The lady lions have a strong singles line-up with state single champion, Nicole Lisovyy at first singles and our captains Ally Cheiken and Maeve McErlean playing second and third singles. We are still working on finding the best doubles teams possible from a strong group of returning players - seniors Lauren Oblon, Nicole Stone, Juliana Litz, Rachel Brodsky, Audrey Kim and Erica Stone. Promising freshmen looking for a spot on varsity are Sarah Kideckel, Madison Sopinsky and Lexi Moore.

Long-time coach Jeanette Hausman has been coaching the girls team for 30+ years and is joined by a great assistant coach in Amy Titus, both optimistic about the season. Tennis is a unique blend of individual and team play. The team has strong individual players and the goal of the coaches and captains is to unite the girls as a team. The team always looks forward to playing our strongest league opponent, New Hope and playing many AAA non-league opponents to stay strong for post-season play. Although the girls take one match at a time, their goal is to win a 5th consecutive league and district 1 AA title and return to the state championships in Hershey.

2019 outlook- A young team looking to make a mark in the league with the returning leadership of Bryce and Anthony. Will Klanderman looks to develop into a key piece along with Freshman Ian McErlean.

Current Progress

The team is off to a 2-1 start this year. They have had the opportunity to play two beautiful courses this year so far. The team has played at Union League Club at Frankford Torresdale, but fell to league power Holy Ghost Prep. They defeated both Delco Christian and Jenkintown at Applebrook on Monday.

The boys home match will be a tri-match with Holy Ghost Prep and Delco Christian at 5 Ponds Golf Club on 9/17.

Competitive Spirit - Season Preview

The Cheerleading/Competitive Spirit team here at Lower Moreland has entered into a new era. The team will now not just be on the sidelines of football and basketball games, but will look to become a part of competitive cheer on a consistent basis.

Part of the squad attended Pine Forrest Cheer Camp back in mid-August not only to improve on stunts and routines, but took the opportunity to come together as a team. The team performed nightly in camp competitions and took home the Spirit Stick on night 1. The Lions squad also brought home the 2019 Superior UCA trophy from the camp, which earned them an invitation to the Citrus Bowl.

The team has been working hard at practices leading up to the first football game and looks to be out there to support the team all season long. Look for their routines at half time of our football games.

Boys Soccer - Season Preview

As the 2019 season kicks off under third year head coach Bob Barnhart, the Lions of Lower Moreland will have a different look this year on the pitch. The Lions graduated 10 seniors all who saw the field in different rolls for the squad over the last few seasons. The Lions will rely on the senior leadership of returning varsity players Devon Robinson, Ethan Horn, Emmett Cousins and Bennet Durand to steady any early nerves for some of the younger players.

Senior Adam Aloush will see significant minutes as the season progresses. Juniors Colin Clark, and Javin Cooper along with returning sophomore Braden Alicea will look to help get the Lions back into the district playoffs after a heartbreaking loss to Phoenixville in overtime last season. The Lions will look to a handful of other returning Sophomores and a few talented Freshman to fill holes left by the graduating seniors from last season.

This will be the third year for a hand full of seniors on the varsity field and they are eager to help the Lions return to the postseason. The season kicks off on August 30th as the Lions of Lower Moreland take on the squad from across town in Upper Moreland.

There are a host of other returning players who saw valuable time on the pitch in 2018 who will be key in the success for the program.
